Buying books in UK

By Tricky110974, in Star Wars: Edge of the Empire RPG

Have really struggled to get any books in UK recently; Santa had to fulfill my wishes with Pathfinder. Amazon (UK) doesn't have anything, although I could buy £228.99(!) from a Marketplace seller.

Today, I managed to get hold of some books, but just wondered, does anyone know a reliable UK seller that has (regular) stock? Still looking for Special Modifications and (when it arrives) No Disintegrations.

Not wanting to encourage any advertising, just wanting to some helpful advice.

EDIT: Cancelled order as they didn't have stock and was simply saying that they could get books eventually.

I've found it a bit of an ongoing problem - it seems as if many retailers over here rapidly sell out. Currently I'm still waiting on my pre-order of Endless Vigil from one site, I'm not sure I'll ever actually see it to be honest.

Personally, I would not recommend using Amazon. I've found them to be unreliable with FFG's Star Wars RPG line.

Best advice I can think of would be to find a handful of reliable websites (sites I personally trust are GamseLore, Wayland Games and Chaos Cards, but I'd recommend using your own judgement) and pre-order from one of them the second there's an option to. Hopefully they'll order enough stock and you'll be able to get a copy.

To be honest, I think things were ok for the first year or so. But since around the time Age of Rebellion came out, it seems to me that there has been trouble with stock levels.

Leisure Games has most of the older books but have sold out Endless Vigil, Forged in Battle, the regional books. Seems they never got Special Modifications.

Better not wait to get No Disintegrations because it will be gone just as fast as Special Modifications.

Life on the Outer Rim is such a pain.....

Special Modifications has been reprinted and the latest batch is on the boat and so should be in stores within a couple of months.

Are you or someone you know planning a trip stateside soon?

I ordered Special Modifications from Wayland Games back in September/October and still haven't got it and the info emails stopped after a few weeks...

Need to get onto them as I've since moved and I need to change my address.

Leisure Games is out of stock of over 20 books across all three lines. And it doesn't have any of 'the regional books' (Nexus, Strongholds, Sons, Nal Hutta). It's been out of stock of books for so long that many of them are no longer listed on the website.

The UK is out of stock of all three main rulebooks, meaning groups can't start playing if they want to. It's been this case for months now (a friend recently got the last copy of Edge of Empire from his local shop, and the store he bought it from couldn't get more copies, nor copies of AoR).

UK stores simply cannot get the product and quite often books are effectively out of print in the UK immediately after release (Nexus and Special Modifications for example).

Simply put, FFG do not ship enough product to the UK/EU and as a result if you do not get a book within a week or two of release, you can end up having to wait for a reprint, or spend time tracking it down from store to store in the hope of finding one who has it, as stores can't get more copies from Esdevium (the UK distributor).

Customers in the UK have contacted FFG about this several times, and they've tried claiming it's because Esdevium don't order enough (Esdevium and FFG are both part of the same company now). while Esdevium have said the issue is that they can't get re-orders from FFG after the initial shipment.

Fantask.dk has most of the books except FaD Core, Endless Vigil, Fly Casual, Special Modifications. Fantask.dk is a danish shop but do ship to the rest of europe but they are expensive. Something like 70£ for Core rulebooks and 35£ for other books.

Pretty much you need to pre-order to get the books or there is every chance you never will.

I mostly use Gameslore and found Amazon to be really unreliable for FFG books.

It is true that FFG need to ship more stock to the UK/EU and not focus solely on the USA. I went to the Star Wars Celebration event in the UK and FFG had a stand there; of course i was expecting to be able to pick up some of the newer released books only to find they didnt have any of the RPG stuff. They just had loads of X-Wing Game stuff, which i thought was a pretty poor approach.

If they want people in the UK/EU to play their games and spend money, they need to make sure they can get the books easily without a 2 month pre-order.

I've used Gameslore almost exclusively (apart from anything else, their prices are usually better than Amazon) and I've ordered everything as soon as it becomes available. I'm just waiting for the F&D beginner set reprint to come up for pre-order (assuming it makes it to the UK). What I'd really like to find in the UK is the adversary decks.

I've used Shiny Games & also 365 Games (just pre ordered No Disintegrations from there)

Have also used Wayland Games previously but have just had to cancel my last order of 3 decks of Adversary Cards... I ordered then at the beginning of November!!! Seems like they were happy to just keep hold of my money though!

Yeah, pretty much. Getting a hold of books in Sweden has proven really hard, only got the CRB through a stroke of luck after scouring every retailer I could find. Oddly, I never had this issue with their 40K games. Wouldn't be much of an issue if shipping wasn't so very expensive.

Ive ordered the books at or before release since EotE core launched , but to be honest if you want just one book order from amazon.com , I had to do this for a friend that really wanted it. I actually think there is a business to be had here ditributing throughout Europe for the SW books if you have the storage to buy the books in bulk.

Another suggestion is to do get a group of people to do a bulk buy and then distribute, that takes a bit of trust though.

Thanks for all the replies.

I do find it odd that FFG have one of the biggests licences and can't manage to keep stock flowing; Star Wars is probably going to be remain quite popular for next few years, at least.

I checked out buying direct from FFG, but the shipping was too high. Amazon.com (US) seemed okay with reasonable shipping costs, so may just do that.

The oddest part is that FFG/Asmodee bought the distributors in uk and germany, and cover basically most of europe on their own, yet those distributors are reluctant to order from FFG in high enough numbers to satisfy demand. It gets even worse on the print on demand stuff, as the distributors claim they can't make any money on those, because their logistics are not cable of getting those orders together with their normal orders (as those come from china).
