So what book would you like to see next for Rogue Trader?

By Lightbringer, in Rogue Trader

Personally I'd like to see a multi-faceted book like the Inquisitor's handbook for DH: a real player's guide with loads of new careers, worlds, weapons, endeavours, ships, hulls, personalities and a selection of short backgrounds articles on worlds within the Koronus Expanse.

Failing that, I'd like to see a true sourcebook with a load of planets and adventure hooks.

I'd also like to see a RT mirror to the Haarlock's Legacy adventure series.

What would YOU like to see?

I agree that an expansion on the core set of materials would be great. Some of the other things I would like to see:

1. New worlds and adventure hooks are always welcome.

2. A book on xenos and their tech would be wonderful as it compliments and expands your options.

3. Smaller scale Rogue Traders. Rather than running an empire, what about the Rogue Trader wannabe that works within that organization, trying to claw his/her way to the top? Maybe running a smaller ship with a crew of 10-100? Not having huge resources to draw upon and needing to really think about the best way to get the job done so profits are maximized?

4. I LOVE psionics! So any expansion on those would be great. Some of the alternate rules presented in the Dark Reign forum are very workable and should be considered for inclusion.

5. Since RT and DH are supposed to be complimentary, what about listing some of the heresies that Rogue Traders may come across during their exploits, how would they deal with them if they have a rep from the local Inquistion on board?

6. Looking forward to the Deathwatch (?) book (space marines) what can be brought forward in RT that will mesh with it? Transport of troops, scouting missions selling info, logistically runs of supplies in a war zone, etc. All of these could be collected together in Rogue Trader: Opportunities in War.

Well, my personal though on this is, that there will be a Playersguide, like the Inquisitors Handbook, hopefully a settingbook, some deeper look into the Koronus Expanse. Also there will be a Creatures book. Maybe a adventure book, or a trilogy, a book about the various factions that dwell in the Expanse. Let us wait what comes in this year.

Hi all,

Would like to see...

Rules for smaller scale void capable vessels, as well as rules for torpedoes, not to mention groundside vehicles.

The equivalent of the Inquisitor's Handbook (RT Almanac?), possibly incorporating the fluff that was excised from the core book (e.g. crew roles).

The big book of xenos of the Koronus Expanse and interactions with the sentients, possibly including example void-capable vessels presented in a similar fashion as was done in the GM's Kit.

Psionics - possibly intrigued with how xenos approach the channelling of the immaterium (Ork, Eldar), but am more interested in development of further Navigator abilities (powers, traits, mutation, etc.)

Think Elysium-style rules for establishing a Rogue Trader Dynasty/dominion within the Expanse could wait, so much potential for RT to come...

Theren: Hmm...smaller scale Rogue Traders would be prone to predation from larger RT operations who would view them as vulnerable/weak, not to mention coercion from the Inquisitor to assist in their endavours (which IIRC was mentioned in the side panel at the end of character creation). Don't know if such small scale void vessels exist in the Imperium but sounds like a good plotline...the Explorers find themselves being screwed over by a radical inquisitor and his agents whilst striving to fend off claim jumping rivals in their endeavours for profit and ambitions. Gotta work on that...

Smaller void-vessels might be nice, to give some templates on things like intra-system craft. I'm unsuprised that FFG have managed to throw a curveball as usual, giving us an adventure sourcebook before a Rogue Trader's Handbook, as it were. Most of all I'd like to see interesting ideas to change the dynamics between the PCs

The Voidship Companion

New ship types, components. New ways of integrating different skills, talents and classes into shipboard action. Torpedoes. All the stuff we're missing at the moment. Slightly expanded (but still quick and easy) boarding rules. NPC vessels and opponents. How to GM ship-board life. Mutiny and crew loyalty and quality. Ship stores and voidscurvy etc etc

I'd like to see Games Workshop and FFG work together and put out some miniatures designed for the RPGs.

Diggin deep in the GW catalog is daunting.

An official GW Rogue Trader Army list would be awesome. Could have human troops, ork mercs, kroot mercs, eldar allies and all kind of neat twists in it.

Squads of servitors, space marines. Of course there would be restrictions, like ork and kroot mercs are not allowed alongside space marine allies and so forth.

I would also like to see Rogue Heresy or Dark Trader as a conversion book that has better and stronger guidelines for using the two games together, perhaps even with guidelines on how to adopt older WFRP 1E and 2E material to the games. Complete with new alternate careers and backgrounds that better mesh to two together, aquisition information for Dark Heresy gear in Rogue Trader and throne prices for Rogue Trader gear fo use in Dark Heresy.

And both set of psyker rules converted to the other system for ease of use.

1st choice would be a Rogue Trader handbook in the vein of Inquisitors handbook. Although slightly less emphasis on guns n' gear and more on ships, ship components, torpedoes, fighters and bombers, new uses of skills, new backgrounds and optional careers, etc.

2nd choice, Koronus expanse source book, example worlds and plot hooks, details on active aliens in the expanse (Eldar, Ork, Slaugh, Vu'ath (spelling?), Ra'ghouls (or whatever they are called), Stryxis, etc. A setting guide essentially.

I don't really use published adventures, so i'm not fussed about release of them, but i do love example plot hooks and background, stuff to fire the imagination.

Many years Ago GW released such a list. It didn't have non terran troops. The Space Pirate list they released at the same time did. they are two of the Four or so Ammy lists not seen since 1st edition [squats and Genestealer cult being the others.]

No 1 - Koronus Expanse Sourcebook - Detailing a good few of the already named regions and worlds (such as notable worlds in Winterscales Realm for example), and giving at least 5-6 pages detail each on both Port Wander and Footfall.

No 2 - Ship book - new hulls, ship weapons, components, and a good list of different completed ship stats.

Adventures can be useful. I don't tend to use them as written, but they tend to be the only source of solid setting info so far, so I am always pleased to buy them to mine for that.

Ok
How is this for an idea for a new game aid for RT...

I love hooks . Just a little bit of inspiration to get my juices going and get the game underway. The last thing I want is a whole adventure or even a campaign .
I also like visuals . They tend to unite the “vision” we at the table have.
So why not combine the two into a fantastic package.

I would like to see FFG produce a DVD or perhaps a CD-ROM that would contain...

  • short video hooks . Perhaps have one or two that are linked to an included mini-adventure, then have some that are just generic adventure starters. (SOS signals)
  • Audio / Vox recordings
  • You could also have video that contains stills of the alien races look like
  • Adventure maps
  • Ship plans
  • Ship illustrations
  • NPCs’ pictures…
  • 3D planet readouts for “new planets”.
  • Maybe even a few short riddles or puzzles for the players to figure oout.
  • All of which heavy on the atmosphere .

So yea that’s it!

A game accessory that I could use to help me exude some of that Warhammer 40k feel.

And why not put that game aid on my 72” plasma TV?

Yea… that would be a sweet product!

More details for large scale combats. Stats for the mercs that can be hired, including rarity. Rules for handling combat with thousands of men (the population of a single barracks), including rules on how they are moved between the ship and planetside.

An official conversion of Dark Heresy psychic powers over to the Rogue Trader system.

More ships/ship components. I'm looking for ships ranging in technology from a planet that is almost at the point of discovering warp travel, all the way up to the high tech/corrupted.

The only supplement I really want is a ship supplement. Other then that, there's plenty to get the ball rolling.

Definately need more in the way of ships and their equipment for options

Planet generation with atmosphere, lifeform, profit factor/value details, distances to travel etc

Additional Xenos ships and species with the same kind of generation system for diversity generation as their planets

Generation system for raw materials, goods and for their supply/demand on planets as a way of contributing/detracting from profit factor

Much larger expansion on Endevours and Misfortunes

Bit more expansion in the areas of navigation and warp encounters

Little bit more on naval command structure for player and GM clarity so you can assign ranks, roles and detail PC/NPC skill levels

A lot of this kind of stuff has been in other products like Traveller and D6 starwars, it was pretty invaluable for long term campaigning once you'd used the in-game material and as RT's, they are supposed to be striking out into the unknown.

more ships and components, torpedoes, battleships, battlecrusiers, heavy cruisers, and grand cruisers.

An adventure that deals with the Yu'vath, I dont think they have gone to the well enough yet!

I think this is a great idea, i have played other RPG's and with still being at school it become difficult running one when you don't have much time to prepare props and things to use in your campaigns. This would be a great help if i was stuck for time and needed a quick quest hook or such.

Exactly!

I personally don't need "help" with pre-published scenarios or campaigns.

And I tend to get bored reading lots of crunchy technical information.

I need idea starters.

Besides most of my players are reading books to get a feel for the game. I would like game aids that help me give them a rich "feel" of the world of 40k.

The flaw is that that would require an entire team of 3d modellers, graphics artists, all sorts, which not only aren't cheap, but would be of no use to FFG in the long run. Expecting some sort of DVD with videoes, etc, when Games Workshop disallows video projects of it's IP frequently, is folly, in my humble opinion.

The best you could hope for it a book that contained all of that (minus the videos, 3d graphics and audio stuff).

I would like to see:

a book similar ot Creature Anathema for the Koronus system;

A book abour Xebno ship;

Something about advanced Rogue Trader Career;

That covers it I think.

Ships, ships, ships, xenos ships, heretic ships, strange ships, and ship gear of all sorts. Now I'm an experienced GM with all sorts of DH stuff like Creatures Anathema and IH, so I already effectively own a lot of useful RT source books. And I don't hold it against FFG for bringing out adventure books first. RT isn't like "normal" RPGs and so those will be really helpful to GM's who are less sure of their footing.

But I really want ships and ship equipment.
