Scenario "Gaining Favor" - Can Jabba spend the points?

By NeverBetTheFett, in Star Wars: Imperial Assault

Yes, I know it was "discussed" on another thread regarding the new map, but it got off track in my opinion. So if this is not the information you're looking for, move along. Go troll your friends on facebook. It's probably much more passive aggressively satisfying than trolling this nerd.

Simple Question:

In the scenario "Gaining Favor", when you consider " each player counts as having extra VPs " - are these ones that Jabba can immediately spend?

Was that really necessary?

I would say yes. Jabba can spend VP from the VP pool, unless that VP pool is at zero.

No probably not. I'll edit it for you.

Thank you! for the answer and not being offended by my attempt at being tongue in cheek! You rock.

I wasn't offended, I'd just hate to see this forum become a place where people start threads with "if you don't like my thread then you can go...", you know? I like that the IA forum is still friendly and welcoming unlike some of the other forums here. Sarcasm doesn't convey well over text, so it's pretty easy for someone to read "go troll your friends on facebook" without hearing your implied laughter. But I guess I'm just being an oversensitive little prissy pants. :)

Anyway this is a pretty simple case since you can't lose VPs in this mission, but what about missions where you can count has having VPs on one turn and then not have them the next, like Sabacc Standoff in the Han Solo pack? If you don't control the Sabacc table after you've spent VPs from controlling it, do you go down to negative VPs?

I would say you can only spend VP you actually have. You have VP you have gained , not ones you are considered having. Otherwise, if you spend VP you are considered to have, you are still considered having the original number of VP's, because no rule tells you are now considered having less - nothing modified the mission rule.

Why would there be a longer term when we already have gain ?

I submitted a rules query on this, along with the question about the rerolls on elite alliance rangers.

With this pace there will be a lot of new entries in the FAQ and some in errata.

I have to agree with a1bert

"Having VP's" and "Considered as Having VP's" are two different things.

It's like a golf handicap. You may start out with a lower/higher score, but you haven't actually potted those balls. (pardon the analogy. I'm not a golfer so I probably got something wrong in there somewhere)

If you're considered as having points, then for all intents and purposes you should have those points, and they behave just like any other points.

If I gave you 3 strain tokens and said these count as points and gave no exceptions to that, then they should be just like normal points you could spend in any other way.

If it said "counted as having VP only for the purposes of determining victory" or something, then there wouldn't be any question about the issue. But it doesn't, so that's why we need an official ruling.

You example does not appear to be an argument for or against.

"These count as points" is different than "you are considered having 3 points".

But, following the new "counts as situation" - if you gave me 3 strain tokens and say these count as points with no additional rules for spending them, I would then have 3 points that I could not spend, or I could spend points but nothing requires me to discard strain tokens.

It would be different if you say these represent VPs. Then it would be implied that you need to discard the things that represent VPs to spend VPs.

Now, back to waiting for the FAQ.
