Just a quick bomb question from a novice.....

By biohunter21, in X-Wing Rules Questions

Hi all! I a have just gotten into this game, and pertaining to dropping bombs that explode at the end of round, how do I, dropping the bomb, get out of its blast radius? I know dropping a bomb is an action, and i can only do actions after I move. For dropping the bombs, I am using k wings and firesprays, if that means anything Thank you for the help!

Read the card.

Not all bombs are actions. Some are dropped when you reveal your dial. Only the ones that say Action: on them, are actions.

As things stand at present, all bombs that are dropped when you reveal your dial, explode at the end of the round, so unless you make an effort to do so (hard-1 turn or stop moves), or bump, you'll not stay in the blast radius.

All the ones that are dropped as actions, explode when a ship or its movement template overlaps them, so unless you do something really silly, you won't detonate them yourself.

Nothing you said makes any sense.

The are of effect bombs deploy "when you reveal your maneuver dial." Any maneuver after that, except a 0-stop, will get your ship out of Range 1. These bombs detonate at the end of the Activation Phase, not the end of the round. In other words, after the highest PS ship moves, but before the combat phase starts.

Only bombs with the "Action" Header require an action to deploy. Currently none of these do damage over an area. They detonate when overlapped by maneuver template or ship's base.

You sir, are a ninja. Also, good catch on the 1-turn. I missed that in my answer.

NB: I think a 1 turn only gets you if you're a large based ship, and possibly not even then, but I don't have my templates handy to check. Either can do it with a 1 turn and a barrel roll though.

Thank you so much! It is my fault i didnt read carefully.....

A large base pivots on its front inside corner with a 1-turn. The length of the large base + length of the 1-straight from dropping the bomb will get the ship out of harm's way.

You'll find that in this game, cards are worded very, very specifically.

Study up on the order of things: planning phase, activation phase, revealing your dial, executing a maneuver. All of these wordings affect how cards are to be played. You'll get the hang of it.

As previously hinted at bombs tend to come in two varieties:

Drop when maneuver is revealed: These are the ones that typically go BOOM! automatically and can potentially hit a large number of targets. They may be used while Stressed but you need to reveal your maneuver to use them so being Ionized can prevent their use.

Action to drop: These are often called "mines" as they generally require a ship to contact them before they go BOOM. They also only affect one ship even if the token happened to land on/under multiple ships which means any one of them could be the triggering ship.

While these two bomb types are pretty distinctive you still can only use one on any given turn.
