Tactical Aside:

Captain Jonus.

A little seen squadron makes a feature in this game for JJ, and his 16pts could be crucially important here.

Jonus has the spectacular ability to allow friendly ships to turn a dice to an accuracy when shooting a ship within 1 of Jonus. Aresius here has 5 flotillas which all live and die by their scatter tokens. If JJ can get Jonus painting those flotillas up with his laser guidance system for Demo, Impetus and the ISD Jupiter to bring down it could have a signifcant bearing on the game.

With 6 Awings and 4 YT2400's you would have to put good money on Aresius being able to hold Jonus in place. However JJ is no fool and brings Tempest for bomber escort to the fight along with Black squadron, Intel providing jumpmaster and Relay providing Lambda. Holding in place might not be on the cards, Aresius really needs to go through JJ's squads.

And as if on Queue JJ has moved his ISD to threaten pretty much every flotilla on the other side.....

We watch in anticipation.

I should become an Armada journalist. So Insightful

Shhhhhhhh! Jonus is my little silver bullet. He has 5-7 flotilla kill assists over the tourney so far. Also helps out vs other smaller ships (CR90s, GSDs, Raiders, even VSDs).

I ran him at the Cardiff regionals, I think I might have been the only one. He is great for flotilla hunting and you can have a lot of fun with quad turbo lasers for a guaranteed 2 accuracy.

Its odd to me, because when the dude (Jonus) was spoiled this entire forum was like "oh man look at that guy he's awesome" and yet, and I've seen this work out this way on my table as well, he just doesn't see the amount of play you would expect.

For myself, I find myself building my list, and I put him I'm going and I'm tinkering and I then I get to a point and I'm like...eh this looks like it works better with rhymer and jonus gets left out. And yet I keep starting with him because his potential is so obvious. Anyone else having this issue? Clearly not JJ.

Because JJ has seen the future. Every now and then he even goes Bacta the Future.

Bacta the Future forever.

I don't really get Dodonna in that list.

Drop the ion turbines and go with Madine, and the liberty gets 3 turns shooting behind the ISD / Demolisher, and I expect a different outcome. Especially as awings and YT-2400 don't crit to activate Dodonna. But besides that the combination of Awings and YTs with tons of activations and a big hammer looks like a great archetype.

I guess that on top of being cheap, Dodonna is here for the XI-7/XX-9. If the hammer gets double arc, you stand very good chances to get to pick structural damage/whatever is interesting in those 16 cards you're going to draw.

The thing which kills that list is not getting 1st player.

I played vs an earlier version of this list (no rogues). And while it's not my favourite archetype, it's rather effective. Very good for sniping a ship or two, then disengage, which is ideal for elimination rounds.

But that version has a much stronger bid.

Yep, the increse in bid, and the fact i choose poorly my objective it's an error. Btw i already change it, and i hope it's works batter :). For dodonna and the liberty, she can virtually do 8 damage plus the 3 arc shoot. Madine is good, but a liberty at speed 1 and et can do a similar turn of a speed 2 liberty with madine, so i think is not really a must have admiral. (sorry for my english).

So I ran him with a couple of tie defenders, Jendon and Stele. Firstly Rhymer doesn't buy you as much with these squads but the real key is that he makes each shot count, and with gladiators and raiders that really matters.

Yeah defenders is looking like an answer I like. I've got him involved with three in a list I like for CC that is also running a couple glad-2's

I ran Jonus today at a tourney. He really did prove his worth, popping flotillas and making life miserable fur assault frigates and corvettes, even mc80s.

He benefits hugely from relay and intel, since he needs to reposition periodically.

He also works better in a more anti-squad oriented squadron lineup, whereas rhymer seems to want even more bombers.

Bump

So when is Green vs Matt going to be? I'd love the chance to watch!

Our calendars are pretty full - and not exactly compatible. We had semi-scheduled for something Monday or Tuesday, but Matt hasn't been online in like a week, so I guess he's been even more busy than he anticipated.

TL;DR no date set.

We're looking at Tue or Wed. Time TBD.

Gk and Matt Shadow are given forum bans for not building hype.

On an unrelated note. Those with forum bans cannot use assault frigates until their ban is over

Hard to find matching slots in our calendars, so we had to jump on the wagon when we had the chance.

Also: I'm building hype for the final two rounds of "can I kill your squad or not while staying out of your side arc?"

****. I was looking forward to using my Vader assault frigate build.
