My ISD-I and ISD-II

By Ell, in Star Wars: Armada Painting and Modification

Following the advice of Brobafett in the Offtopic subforum that some people here would enjoy these kind of pictures. ^_^

My camera is a crap, but hey, somehow I like that crap look of the pictures.

How were you able to mount the Disney diecast model?

It's not difficult. I just took a keyhole plastic peg from one of my Victories, drilled the bottom of the die cast to fit the peg in, and finally glued the finn stand to make sure that the model will not fall (it was stable without glue, but just in case, because the die cast is heavy).

That makes sense. Can I ask what kind of drill you used and what kind of drill bit? Those models are expensive, so I want to get it right like you did.

Thanks!

I used a regular drill (the same I use to drill holes in the wall) and metal drill bits you can find in any drilling set. Started by drilling small holes in line, and then increased progressively the size of the drill, keeping in mind to fit tight the plastic keyhole peg.

Remember to mark previously drill locations, using a screw or punch.

Thanks for the extra info. The pictures do help very much.

A friend and I had a similar idea, but we havn't followed through for fear of destroying the models. But not that I see someone else did it successfully, its helps build up confidence.

Thanks!

You are welcome! The risk is worth it to me.

A picture side by side on the table:

I'll admit that seeing them side-by-side I prefer FFG's ship more, but I absolutely love the notion of having two very similar ISD's for an ISD-I and an ISD-II and I wouldn't change it one bit :) Great work on attaching the keyhole on the underside of the Diecast, I was thinking of buying one a few days ago but now I may just buy another FFG one with Mel's kit. That said, I just like FFG's upper superstructure more, it's not so squat and wide, but the die cast has a nice forward plate arrangement and a slightly nicer profile.

Great pictures and thanks a ton for putting them side by side, it certainly made up my mind too. The gel superglues are really good for attaching keyholes, but um, after putting together a few resin kits, I'm getting kind of attached to quick-set epoxy as a join. Thanks a ton mate, and well done, eh?

Thank you, Vykes. Like someone said, Star Destroyers are like butts, every person has his own preferences. ^_^
