I had the attachment peg brake on my IG-2000, I just dug the clear plastic part out and discovered the the ship itself had a triangular insert in, which grips pegs way better than the clear plastic! Not sure if all ships are like that, but that one made my life easier, the ships just sites like 2mm lower than before.
Have Attachment Pegs Come Off Anyone's Ships?

They are, yes, big and small ships. It's so that they can glue the peg sockets in in the right orientation. The sockets in the ships are a lot tighter than in the pegs sockets IME though, and in some cases doign this I've had to file them a bit to fit at all.
I find it easier just t drill out broken peg sockets and replace them with clipped off female peg ends. Or the original socket, if I've not lost it.
