Rebel High Command: Gamorrean Guards

By theaficionado, in Star Wars: Imperial Assault

Hello again, everyone!

Apologies for the delay, I've been having some internet and electricity issues at my house as of late. The Empire must have found me out!

Still, I've managed to get this information out. Here's an analysis of the Gamorrean Guards from Jabba's Realm!

Hope you all enjoy! :)

Good overview. The Elites certainly seem strong, I think the biggest challenge is just where to fit them for max synergy now that the Merc faction has so many options thanks to the new wave.

There are a few good Brawler cards out there, you mentioned Guardian and Grisly Contest as the 2 with the most potential. Since the Rancor is a Brawler I would think the pigs here might mesh well with a him.

Like all melee units these Guards are weak to Stun, but their defense bonus helps with that and Stun abilities are not common in all lists.

PS: Did you purposefully move the discussion out of the Skirmish category for this thread or is that just the new forums acting up?

The new forums are a bit confusing, and it didn't occur to me that I posted it in the main.

I'm pretty sure I also mentioned Grisly Contest as being one of my favourite Brawler cards. Being able to deal damage without spending actions is, in my opinion, the best thing you can do in Imperial Assault. The Rancor is definitely a great option, though it can get a bit crowed with all these melee guys needing to get to the front.

Thanks for reading as always, Nick :)

In a couple games with the elite gamorreans, I noticed one thing. I focused them in my first game and attacked the door in "another man's trash" mission. I remember feeling "these things hit like trucks! And I wish there was an enemy here so I could cleave with that surge"

Next day, I played against some elite weequays and in an effort to stanch the tide of how my game was beginning to go, I ran both gamorreans in to attack an elite weequay and cleave greedo, and hopefully swap and do the same in reverse to kill them both. I quickly realized/remembered they don't get to do that trick very well without the focus. In the end I was only able to take the weequay and that was after two attacks (he rolled well on defense) and a frustrated grisly contest to make sure I didn't completely waste my actions and let that weequay live.

Long story short. I like them. They hit hard. They absorb damage - arguably better or at the very least cheaper than the rancor. They're begging to be focused though. Otherwise you can't even really hope for the cleave. And maybe shouldn't extend in hopes of it.

Their lack of damage boosting surges bothers me a bit. But my main issue is that I'm playing with too many hunters and smugglers. At the end of a match last week I could have won with HKs but I was left with the pigs in the end. While they're good, I had a host of hunter cards that would have tipped the game in my favor. So I'd say it depends on the list. They fit probably better with a rancor list, command card wise, but then they're hampered by being melee. I want to use them but I haven't found their fit.

That was one of the other problems I had with them. I kept forgetting they weren't hunters (a very big theme in my mind lately) and planned to use hunter cards and when I went to do it after having already done things planning on this working, was like crud, I just ruined everything. Only like my second game with them and not a big deal, but still was frustrating when everything else in the list is a hunter ;)

Yea I'm a big fan, they've got access to some solid cards with Brawler/Guardian and they hit like a ton of bricks a lot of the time.

I also can't think of a unit in the game that appreciates that focus more for the surge with a re-roll!
