Jedis and Troopers

By Agemman, in Imperial Assault Skirmish

So i just saw all the new stuff that's coming and i wanted to make a new list:

Luke Skywalker (Jedi)

Obi-Wan Kenobi

Gideon Argus

C-3PO

And now comes the problem, i already have two really good beatsticks and two good cheerleaders, i want some numbers, some meat to throw at the grinder and i have 16 points to do so.

What do i do?

2x E Sabs + 2x TC

2x E Echo

1x Rangers + 1x E Sabs

1x Rangers + Davith + Balance of the Force/On a Diplomatic Mission

1x E Rangers + 1x E Smuggler

1x E Rangers + 1x Smuggler + Rebel High Command

1x E Rangers + 2x Smuggler

1x E Rangers + R2-D2 + Balance of the Force/On a Diplomatic Mission

So turns out the forums refuse to let me sign in, but on this one apparently I can post as a guest? Anyway....

I currently run the above list with Davith, eSabs and R2D2.
I have also also run it in the past with 2 eSabs + TC

To be perfectly honest, any of those options should be fine. I prefer the eSabs due to their speed. They can keep up with the melee guys, and need to be close anyway. It's target saturation. Rush the opponent with as much as you can and overwhelm them. Focused eSabs do solid damage too. Echos would fill a similar role I guess but I love having at least one Speed 5 unit.

It's probably going to come down to what units you like using most. I haven't had a chance to try out Rangers yet so it's hard for me to comment, but I feel like the current tournament maps are better suited to close quarters fighting. Lots of tight corridors, doors, and corners. I think it would be pretty easy to hide from rangers or force them to over extend. The new maps (apart from maybe dianoga) are heavily objective based. You want to be right in the thick of it.

Davith, R2 and Sabs ... that's an option i never considered, does R2 do anything useful other than drawing you cards? Do you run his command card too? I never used him that's why i'm asking.

Running that list with Leia, Jyn, and R2.

After some looking, eRangers are pretty good.

R2 is just there for more cards really... and he's a pain to kill.
Can be replaced with a smuggler and an upgrade, but considering how useful movement cards are for this melee heavy list and how amazing Son of Skywalker is, having more cards is great.

On the ISB map, he can get to a terminal and scomp on the first turn. If you get planning in those first 4 cards you end up going through 1/3rd of your deck in the first 2 activations and half of your deck at the end of round 1. By the end of turn 2 you'll probably have seen 11 out of 15 cards.
It can have a big difference on how you play the game as the chance of having Take initiative, Comm Disruption, Negation or Son of Skywalker goes way up when you can reliably get through your deck so quick.

Davith and eSabs are 2 spy groups as well so I take Comm Disruption in my deck.

That being said, R2 is of average use on Landfill (usually just taking the corridor terminal). At least he makes good bait.
And he's not good at all on Anchorhead because the terminals are so far away.

But at the same time, he doesn't get one shot as easily as the smuggler.

If you use 2x echo troopers you can play with grenadier too. Rangers typically never want to be that close to the action, but echo troopers are very much get in your face bros.

That said, I prefer 1x E Rangers + 1x Smuggler + Rebel High Command. Smuggler is good for doors and objectives, rebel high command increases your odds of drawing son of skywalker dramatically, and elite rangers can easily shoot 8+ range, perfect for backing up your jedi

Ok i'm really convinced about R2, Davith and Sabs how does my command deck look? Any changes i should make here? Should i put in Devotion?
