like an updated y wing, A-wing, B-wing

In Star Wars, 30 years isn't all that long. Those old fighters will still do just fine with minor upgrades (no adjustments to game mechanics). In the real world, we still have fighters from the 1980s in the air (but with modernized systems), and SW is likely to do the same. The only reason not to do this is because new ships sell more toys. If that matters for your game, then you're on your own.

Check the Concept are book, they did sketches for several different "Wings" that might suit your needs.

Yep

so i looked... no y wings. a couple that looks similar but they were transports for the resistance.

So any thoughts on creating our own?

Y-wings premiered in the clone wars I believe..They were pretty much relics in AnH so they might be a tad old for TFA but B-wings were pretty much cutting edge in RotJ so its easy to imagine them still being relevant. Perhaps A-wings as well.

I was thinking more along the T-70 x-wing. IE a new gen of the Y-wing. Updated and improved like they did with the X-Wing..

oh I gotcha, yeah that could be cool, you could easily just use the trusty Y-wings stats and add some mods/hardpoints and a little thematic fluff to make it ''new''.

I believe they used the old Ralph Mcquarrie concept art for the t-65s to design the t-70s. perhaps theres some old Y-wing concept art out there you could use for ship design.

Sorry, should have been more clear. No, no y-wings, but I do recall a few pictures of like... J-wings that were a big flying wing with upturned ends and a load of rockets and bombs on the belly.

That's where I was going with that. Not upgraded Y-wings, totally new fighters that replaced the Y-wing...
