The AoR core book has a section on how to combine the two pg.342-343.
High post rate pbp/pbf, interested?
It's tricky because PC's try to increase their Duty while while reducing Obligation. We could just all have 10 Duty that we can buy down for benefit and obligation for those that think it's important, but we can't take any more on. Basically just using the AoR creation rules.
For this it seems to make a lot of sense.
Rp wise , the liaison, and what seems to be his friend the face , are the only two that duty makes a lot of sense.
I don't think any others should have it. Duty pulls into our missions , obligations are the hijinks.
Example, we are stopping off at some planet to buy supplies, duty comes up and we get called to defend a rebel cargo ship , but oh no obligation triggers and instead of a regular pirate raid to fight, here comes our friend the sheriff, obsessed with proving to the imperials he did infact see an omwati escape e.
I'm fine with only Obligation for my sniper. I would ask if we can start it at 15 instead of 10. I'm going to max it out on the Betrayal Obligation (the Empire being responsible for the death of his niece and his subsequent obsession with revenge) and you can only increase it up to its original amount (so, 20 if it started at 10, 30 for 15). That way, I can represent him having a bit of training and gear left over from his Imperial days in exchange for reaaaaaaalllly not being a well-balanced individual after having left them.
If. You took duty what's the pitch?
If my character took it? Internal Security. He's going to be paranoid about who he trusts, and keep a sharp eye on others to prevent a repeat.
Ok lotr, give us your pitch, yt-rp, will you pm me a sheet so we can use you as an alternate? I sooooooooooo like the concept! However if we are doing five is the limit, then lotr would be 5 assuming it all works out.
Hmmm that could work.... Maybe 2 people with obligation, 2 with duty, and your in the middle half and half...
Unless it makes more sense for you to go full duty and the face to be half and half... Which actually rp wise might make more sense.... What do people think?
I think we should just go with whatever is simplest for Keshalyi, since they're the one running it for us.
True nuff
I'm happy to adapt to the duty/obligation balance that you guys are most excited about, as long as it doesn't unbalance our initial stats :). Both of the alternatives sound fine to me.
So here is the bare bones of Nir Dah'roh . A member of the Bothan Spy Net, he is a charming negotiator who will happily deceive you for his own personal gain. A decent pilot, and naturally cool. But it's his experience on the street and in the underworld where he excels, developing contacts within the Rebels, the empire and the underworld.

So I'm going on that I will have 15 duty to start with, my current spending idea ends up using all of it (to get 10 xp and 1,000 credits). But I don't start with a specialization (I'd get it after the first 10 xp once we start), is that allowed under the rules? I've never wanted to do this before. If not I'll have to re-think how to spend duty and xp.

every beginning character chooses a career then gets 1 free specialisation from that career.
Oh, I've been playing that wrong. thanks.
Do we need a planetary pilot?
We need all kinds of pilot
yeah a pool of AA P is a good copilot! but its a start. Realistically anyone who plans on being a shooter will probably be just as good.
I would like to play a Commander with the trees being either Strategist or Tactician, my choice of race is Chagrian and his Duty would be either the Camraderie Duty from the Commander Sourcebook or the Operation Planning Duty from the Diplomat Sourcebook.
Backstory?
I know we said original trilogy for the setting, but did we decide if it was before or after the battle of Yavin?
I can do either, do you have a preference?
I think what I have in mind for my character's background would work better if it was after the battle of Yavin. But if most everyone else wants to have the setting be before Yavin, then I could make it work.
I don't really have a preference, I just wanted it after rogue one, because I think the success of scarif is a main reason why the republic would even wanna deal with us... We are all a little borderline crazy even compared to the rebellion!
I'd like to know by the end of the day if possible:
1) The final roster of characters
2) The exact time period you'd like to start in (pre/post yavin, etc)
3) Anything else you'd really like to include.
Who knows we might even help the bothan repeat that success for the second deathstar.
Alternatively, I could also see it set right before rotj and bleeding into the crazy return of Palpatine and let those dark force cyborg pilots and world destroyers create our own timeline?
Just ideas
