First 100pt game loadout.

By Semperatis, in X-Wing Squad Lists

I had my first ever 100pt game last week and I used the following:-

Warden Pilot K-Wing/TLT

Gold Sqdn Y-Wing/R2/Ion Cannon/BTL-A4

Gold Sqdn Y-Wing/R2-F2/TLT/BTL-A4

Z-95 Lt.Blount/Marksman.

In hindsight, the title cards are far too limiting,I may just use it on one ship in the future. I was up against 2xObsidian TIEs;a Royal Guard Interceptor;Lt.Lorrir /Interceptor;Maarek Stele/TIE Advanced. I know that he had autothrusters, but I can't remember what other upgrades he had.

By the end of the game,I had lost all of the shields on the K-Wing;Lt.Blount had 1 hull pt left and one of the Y's had lost a shield after bouncing off an asteroid.

The first to go was Maarek, caught in the crossfire between the K-Wing and Blount, the Royal Guard was next to go,caught by the y-wing with the TLT and finished off by Blount. If he hadn't been so fixated on destroying Blount,my damage would have been far greater. Lt Lorrir went next, caught in a 3-way,through poor maneuvering trying to evade the TLT Y-wing. That left just the Obsidian pilots, who I must admit were an absolute nightmare to put any damage on,they were just so slippery.

Yes,I would have loved to have had a 'stressbot',but it's not a card that I have. I'll need to get myself another R2 droid as the stress elimination job that it does for the Y's is terrific.

If I was to go far a 3x Y-wing force, what would you recommend?

Welcome to xwing

First iff, i recomend taking r2f2 and throwing it in the nearest dumpster

It is basically worthless and you are better off without any astromech

You are right about the btla4 being limiting. It is basically only used to combo with r3a2

In this setup, blount does nothing with his ability. He is more for assault or ionpulse missiles. He also imo kinda sucks

Points saved from r2f2 and knockibg down blount to a bandit should get you TLT miranda doni

Doni is a monster and you will love her

Good luck!

Believe it or not,but that daft little R2-F2 unit saved that Y-wing's hide more times than I care to think. As for Blount, true, his ability does nothing, but with Marksman,he was dangerous and a Bandit can't take an elite upgrade. Had one of his ships had cloak, then Blount's ability would have counted.

I believe it, because you played it against a list with weak offense. The game is different when everyone plays with lower powered cards. The opinion of R2-F2 shared by ficklegreendice is conventional wisdom based on higher powered cards.

Blount's ability helps against Stealth Device, not cloak. There is a huge difference. If spending 20 points on a Z-95 is your thing, then give Blount a missile with one of those "if this attack hits" effects.

I'll second everything flicklegreendice said about Miranda Doni. She's one of the best pilots in the game. Miranda + 2 Y's is better than any 3 Y combo you might conceive.

Welcome to X-wing.

Thanks for the info lads, sorry that I got the stealth & cloak mixed up,I knew Blount's ability worked on one of them. Ok,I'll look into a Doni & 2x Y list and see what I can field, though with limited cards I may struggle to get the best out of her.

A minority of ships fly out of the box and onto the table. The K-wing is one of those rare bargains. Try it; use just the upgrades from the K-wing pack and you'll find Miranda is ready to go. Yes, there are better crew cards than Bombardier, but it could be worse.

I dislike the K-wing, but I usually recommend it to new players because the expansion is great value for money.

Take the E-wing for contrast. You need an Original Core Set, A-wing, Millenium Falcon and B-wing expansions to get the cards must people equip on Corran Horn. That will cost you around $100 at average online prices. At least Corran's necessary upgrades are all available in expansions of the same faction.

First I have to say, your squad looks awesome, excellent job. Second, welcome to the standard format of x-wing, may your games be many and your losses few. I like both your squad and your opponents, they take me back to when I started x-wing. As far as improvements go I will recommend a couple of things. First, since you only have the 2 TLT's leave the ion cannon Y with the r2 and the title. He needs a better dial even if you decide to take off the title since his range is shorter. A second Y-wing pack for another r2 astro would be a good investment. A second K-wing for more tlt of course. Now about Blount - he is an excellent tool in my opinion. Marksmanship on him takes a miss in my opinion. He only has 2 attack dice to roll and even if marksmanship gives him a crit and a hit or even 2 crits, that would be easily avoided. With this squad I recommend dropping that for either an ion pulse missile (that can't miss) or to jump up to Airen Cracken to improve your squad mates. I really do love how your squad looks together so I hope you continue to fly these 4 ships together in the future.

Now if you were going for 3 y-wings I'd suggest TLT's but if you haven't picked up another k-wing for the cards by then you could get by with just the two plus the ion turret. If you have the points for Horton Salm his pilot ability is great for a tlt-caddy. Otherwise gold squadron pilots are the way to go. A fourth ship could be an x-wing, b-wing, z95, take your pick. You could possibly make use of some ordinance on the y- wings if you have the support cards for it (guidance chips (from the Inquisitor's tie and punishing one expansions) and extra munitions which you have). A good caveat to picking up an Inquisitor's Tie expansion is that also would give you XX-23s Thread Tracers which are also great for Lieutenant Blount. You have plenty of room to play with here.

What are your thoughts as to making one or both the Y-wings into bombers along with the K-wing?

If you have the points, then spreading out your bombs between multiple ships increases your opportunities to drop them. Try it out.

If at first you don't succeed, keep it up. I find myself abandoning lists too quickly. Bombing is difficult and it'll take some games under your belt to learn how to predict your opponents movements. But it's rewarding when you figure it out. If you have the cards, look at adding Cassian or Intelligence Agent to your K-wing to help you.
