That's a decent addition. Can be useful if you've seen something before and want to know what's changed, or to hide tongue-in-cheek comments.

Looks like it cuts out everything that was quoted when you quote a quote that is quoting a quote. This is going to be potentially confusing.

It's true. All of it.

I opened another browser and got the same behavior.

Bizarre but at least the feature exists to show the likes so I expect it will change back to how it was.

I'm happy enough with the new forum, works better on mobile which is all I use.

So temporary workaround is to browse with 2 browsers (one logged out), or to sign out whenever you are curious.

I'm not really a fan of the leaderboard feature but I tend to dislike anything that gamifies social interaction.

The old forum used to do the same thing. At least, there was a way to change your settings so that you were notified when someone quoted your post. I used to get notification of quotes all the time.

Yeah, it was useful feedback when I'd go off on some possibly crazy tangent. When not logged in, you can see it so I hope this is just a temporary bug.

My understanding is that the custom avatar feature was only live for a short bit; they quickly disabled it. So if you got yours in right when the forums went live, it looks like you can keep it, but the rest of us are stuck with stock avatars.

So this is yet another example of not fixing what isn't broke?

I just click my name in the upper right corner, click Profile, on my profile page, I click my avatar, and the option comes up to change it.

Looks like you might be able to post files other than images as long as they are small enough.

That removes most of the reason that I even bother to like posts. With it becoming anonymous, the feature loses almost all of its communication value.

Yeah, that honestly sucks.

I mean, one like isn't equal to another. It's nothing personal that's just how it is: I care more about the opinions of particular people I've gotten to know than the passing "heh" of strangers. There are some people that dole out tons of likes, there are some people that if they like your post you know "Wow, I really must have done something great here!"

And it also shows relation to that particular person's posts.

Maybe I agreed with what you said, but had my own two-cents to say. Maybe I just liked how you said it. Before you could get a sense of tone from the likes.

Now, I could just run amok liking every post in a thread that I want to inflate: no-one would ever know it was me. Wow! Thirty-eight of these posts got likes, there must be a lot of good material in this thread! Do you only like things that really matter to you? No-one cares! Your once-in-a-lifetime like now has as much character as the 472 likes PhillyHartz1137 gave out when he was drunk the other day! Do you want to show individual appreciation for a particular post? Now you'll have to write... another post!

So yeah. I'm kinda salty about that; and I'm probably not going to do much liking anymore. I mean, what's the point?
