Snap Shot Timing

By Raven19528, in X-Wing Rules Questions

I'm wondering exactly when Snap Shot takes effect. For reference, here's the activation steps (ignoring the reveal maneuver step) from the rules reference book:

2. Execute Maneuver: Resolve the following
substeps in order:
a. Move Ship: Slide the maneuver template
between the front guides of the ship’s base
so that it is flush against the base. Then pick
up the ship and place it at the opposite end
of the template, sliding the rear guides of the
base into the opposite end of the template.
b. Check Pilot Stress: If the maneuver is
red, assign one stress token to the ship; if
the maneuver is green, remove one stress
token from the ship.
c. Clean Up: Return the maneuver template
to the pile of maneuver templates. Place the
revealed dial outside the play area next to
the ship’s Ship card.
3. Perform Action: The ship may perform one
action.
I ask because of Snap Shot stress scenarios. If (through Rhymer/Tactician, or R3-A2) a ship is able to deal stress with a snap shot attack, it matters when exactly the snap shot triggers. If it triggers after Step 2 entirely, and before Step 3, then that would make sense why it can lay down the stress after any maneuver and it stick. But if it triggers after the Move Ship sub step, then it would make sense that a ship could do a green maneuver and clear the stress that was just put on by the attack.
Now, in either scenario, there is also the interaction with Pattern Analyzer:

When executing a maneuver, you may resolve the "Check Pilot Stress" step after the "Perform Action" step (instead of before that step).

How does that end up working? Because it takes the Check Pilot Stress step completely out of the Execute Maneuver step, does that mean the Execute Maneuver step goes through until Check Pilot Stress happens, meaning a person using Pattern Analyzer could do their action before the shot happens? Or does it simply remove that from the Execute Maneuver step and add it after the Perform Action step, meaning that the shot would happen, stress would deny their action, but if it was a green maneuver, they would clear the stress that turn?

Pattern Analyzer moves Check Pilot Stress but it doesn't extend maneuver execution.

It triggers after executing a maneuver which is the entirety of step 2. So it would be after the clean up step and before the Perform Action step.

As WWHSD said, Pattern Analyzer moves "Check Pilot Stress" out of the "Execute Maneuver" step and after "Perform Action". It does not move "Perform Action" into the "Execute Maneuver" step before "Check Pilot Stress". This means in both cases, any stress applied by Snap Shot would occur before the Perform Action step and would most likely block the ships action.

The one nifty effect of Pattern Analyzer in this case, is if the ship executes a green maneuver then that ship could clear 1 stress from Snap Shot since "Check Pilot Stress" will occur after the Snap Shot attack. It won't prevent the ship from losing his/her action, but could still be useful.
