Sort of. This came up in our secret chats right about the same time Ginkapo brought it up here... Jon is just the only one bastard enough to actually take it to a tournament...

I had dinner with him afterwards. It's funny how he was so nonchalant about the list. It was great. And it's probably where I realized I don't play nearly enough to ever hope to be competitive at the Regional or above level.

The beer however was good.

That's good. Means there is a wide variety of ways to do well in Armada. This dumb ram list disturbs me, but I do think it is important that weird gimmicky lists can do well if the player is skilled enough. Or praises RNJesus enough for good rolls and better match ups.

Sure we shunned him for that abomination of a list, but that is sort of our way with everyone in our group! To the Armada world though we are the bastards so Jon is one of us just fine!

Well they won! You don't get to be a winner on sheer luck. And if he plays against Brikhause it means there definitely is some skill involved.

If I'm reading this right, fleets with 5 or less squads have won 8 out of the last 19 Regionals.

Brik wasn't at this one, but Biggs was, as was Stasy. Not sure who else.

Jon got his start in TX then moved to the Northeast specifically to crap all over the PA Regionals...

We've been talking in our NC Armada chat for a while now about doing a CR90B w/ET ramfest fleet as a way to demonstrate how stupid the ET ramming rules are... Glad to see it catching steam.

It's totally broken. It means you can take UP TO 134 MORE POINTS IN SHIPS AND UPGRADES!!!! Think of the possibilities you can do with that many points.

Fixes the CC questions too about how OP he is. And it nerfs Mythics list so Blail and Norse can start winning again.

There several levels of abstraction in determining how much somebody invested in squadrons, and I don't think you'd get universal buy-in on any one best way to do it... But I do think "number of squadrons" is one of the worse measures.

In budgeting my own lists, I measure points spent on squadron defense and points spent on squadron offense. I'll generally include in those categories squadron enhancement-specific upgrades like Flight Controllers and BCC, but not necessarily upgrades with a squadron-applicable use case like GT, depending on the reason I included the upgrade. In measuring an amalgamated pool of data like Shmitty's, it would be extremely difficult to abstract to that level without knowing each player's intent in building their list.

I do think "points spent on squadrons" is probably the best compromise between comprehensiveness and practicality. There is certainly some value in measuring number of squadrons, but as the range in squadron pricing grows (fourfold difference from cheapest to most expensive currently), the value of squadron count as a measure of investment decreases.

Man, I think the whole Rieekan in CC is OP is a little bit silly. How is auto-losing games OP? You still need to actually win games to get campaign points, and you also can't HS out until Turn 4. Ya'll just need more MC30s.

EDIT: I guess in the Empire they're called gladiators.
