Ramifications of a Flying Species

By Blackbird888, in Game Masters

The "how" isn't really a problem, but what would be the suggested XP for a PC species that can fly? The rules for flying aren't really hard to understand, but some of the horror stories presented by GMs that let their groups get their hands on jetpacks (which hasn't happened to me, thankfully) make me a bit hesitant. Thoughts?

Not just the Toydarian hovering I assume.

It's as handy as the 4 arm racial I think so I'd go 85 xp.

Full on flying like a bird, yes.

Yah, 85xp.

That's about what I'd come up with as I've been working on the S'kytri.

Note that a species being able to fly isn't quite the same as someone using a jet pack. The jet pack lets you move on a Planetary scale rather than a personal scale, which means you can cover large distances quickly. A species that can fly still moves on a Personal scale.

A single characteristic of 3 (probably Agility, but that's just cliche, Presence or Cunning would be far more interesting) , 3 2's and 2 characteristics at 1 (one of them should be Brawn or Willpower) . A low (8-10) Wound and Strain Threshold. A single skill rank. 85xp

Not the discussion I imagined from the title. It brought to mind a character one of my players wants to make. A Toydarian Heavy Gunner. The poor guy would struggle to hover while firing such large weaponry. That's the ramifications I thought I'd fine.

I'll see my way to the door now

Now see, that would be the "Ramifications of a Hovering Species." That's next door. Sorry about that.
