Is anyone going to talk about "... it's time for the Jedi to end." does it mean that Luke really thinks that, or is he just depressed after Kylo destroyed most of the new Jedi?

The problem with the clip is we lack context for his statement. So it can mean almost anything. For example, it could mean that he feels that the Jedi, as a philosophy, isn't right for the galaxy as it now is. That the Jedi philosophy is too weak, or too narrow. Or that the conflict between the Jedi and the Sith has only led to never-ending suffering and uncountable death.

Hey it's another "Did TFA suck or not" thread!

We haven't had one of those in a few days.

*gets popcorn*

Oh nonsense! It's been at LEAST a week.

As trailers go, I thought it was kinda 'meh'. I'll certainly be going to see it, but I won't be counting down the days or anything.

The trailers to TFA, no matter what one may think of the actual movie, were much better than this one. Much more interesting and exciting.

Technically, this is just a teaser, which usually has less 'story' than trailers. The official trailer, whenever that drops, will probably have much more. I'd imagine sometime in October, on Jimmy Kimmel, since Disney has a habit of dropping Marvel/Star Wars stuff on his show.

Eh, for me personally, it depends on the TFA trailer in question. Most of them, I could take or leave. There was one though, that one that got all of the "reaction" videos from the cast, THAT one gives me chills every time I see it. I fully admit it's due to the musical arrangement, but **** if it isn't effective.

I personally like this one, but it doesn't give me chills. But it's just the first one, so they've got time to put some more together to make me go "ooooooh"

It actually seems like a callback to the very original TFA teaser. Many of the scenes shown are similar in nature or theme, and it has an ominous narration.

Not really. He's a minor variation on the whiny, angry brat theme we saw with Anakin in AotC. Only with even worse acting. Hard as that may be to believe possible.

Out of all the bizarre things you could have said you choose that...

I figure Luke will initially refuse to train Rey, and say that line during those scenes. He'll mean it, but she'll change his mind and bring him around to training her, which will get him out of his post-massacre funk.

To make fun of a pirate.

Oh, you know how Pirates get - a wee drop of the rum and next thing you know, they're bound for Shanghai and going "Oh, me 'ead! I should post a trailer!"

Rum and the leash, the old standards of pirate life.

I suspect that the leash would be an entirely different pirate lifestyle. (:

No leashes or rum, watching grand swabs this morning, so I wasn't Johnny on the spot posting to the forums....arrr

Beyond the lamentations of some the trailer was subtle and interesting with clues. I enjoyed that when Rey is meditating and says light, we see Leia, and hear "help me obi wan" whispered", then she says dark, and we hear Obi Wan, "seduced by the dark side", I can't make out the whispers in the balance scene.

The Leia whisper could've been "he's my brother" or "save our son", but it was "help me Obi Wan". "seduced by the dark side". Really digging these Obi Wan tie ins. I still hold out Rey is a Kenobi. Seems like if you need a Skywalker beat down or one slapped upside the head to get off their ass and do the right thing you need a Kenobi. We shall see.

I say it was better acting. Only he acted too well. :D

This looks like it has the potential to be better than TFA. I'm really interested about the parts where it looks like we might see how Luke lost the New Jedi Temple. Personally, I always thought Rey was the best female character in Star Wars, so I'm excited that this will be about her training.

How could she be? Obi-wan died before she was born. Or is she another of those mysterious births impregnated by the Force? When Obi-wan tells Vader that he'll become "more powerful than you can possibly imagine" he wasn't kidding if he can get someone pregnant years after dying and leaving no body behind.

Well, there is a lot of room for the Kenobi argument. It doesn't neccessarily mean it's his daughter, but rather his grandaughter. I actually prefer that she ended up being a Kenobi and there are plenty of arguments to back up this. But if i applied Occam's razor, i would go with Luke being the father, you have every argument for it from the get go on TFA. Anakin's lightsaber responding to her, timeline, etc...

Well, seeing as this is E5, I'm betting on Luke.

Thinking back I ran a Star Wars campaign back in high school (pre-WEG, used Traveller) set after RotJ in which Luke had been missing for years. The PCs included a fledgling force-user with a possible Skywalker family connection through Kenobi, who was an uncle of Luke (I was a teenager and took the "uncle" title literally). The force-user discovered a bearded hermit Luke living upon an uninhabited planet where his X-wing had crashed years ago. Kinda eerie now. :o

The theory is that Rey is Obi Wan's granddaughter via the Mandolorian princess, Satine. Hence Rey handing Luke his lightsaber, as Obi Wan did

The biggest thing that I got out of the teaser, it was a teaser, not a trailer, was that Luke feels betrayed by the Jedi Order and wants to end it and create a balance in the force, which I believe Rey says is more powerful than either light side or dark side.
