Episode VIII: The Last Jedi (Eventual Spoilers)

By warchild1x, in Star Wars: Edge of the Empire RPG

Most famously: Why didn't the First Order just send a few Star Destroyers through hyperspace in front of the Resistance cruiser, or summon ships from one of their other fleets to intercept the cruiser from the front?

Because they were in full control and saw no need to. Why waste resources when you have to control a galaxy? Is this a serious criticism?! They were winning. With force. In fact, even Holdo shooting her ship through their command didn’t stop the decimation of the resistance. There is just one light freighter left.

Why didn't Holdo explain her evacuation plan to anyone? Why didn't she explain it to Poe when he mutinied?

Those are two questions.

The first; she did. There’s no reason to believe she didn’t. The second; do we share plans with mutineers now?!

Rogue One’s supposed flawlessness can be dispelled with one name; Bor Gullet. Pointless scene that had zero consequences for anyone.

We don't ever see a hyperspace jump that short. I mean, by the time you pull back that lever to revert to normal space you've already overshot the target by a ridiculous distance, making this entire maneuver pointless. All you've achieved is take one of your own ships out of the pursuit.

So overshoot, then turn around and come back.

TFA and Rogue One establish (if it wasn't already clear) that ships can leave hyperspace with a lot of precision.

He heard Poe talk to Finn about it over the com. There's a shot where you see DJ listening to the com with a "wheels turn in his head" expression.

Huh, I never noticed that. Will have to look for it when I rewatch the movie.

She did. To the people who needed to know.

At no point had Poe displayed a willingness to listen to her

So how was Poe able to attract so many followers? Also, why keep it from people who didn't need to know? There's no suggestion that the crew contains First Order spies; if they did suggest this, that would fix the plot hole.

My memory is lousy, so feel free to correct me.

Aren't they being followed through hyperspace which is supposedly impossible? That screams spy.

Rogue One is my 2nd favorite Star Wars movie. But I like a really good war movie, and that last 40 minutes was enough for me. Mileage may vary, of course.

POe attracted 4(!) people. Four.

You also have no idea how chain of command works.

Quoting Mark Hamil from his twitter after the #notmylukeskywalker comments. To me it smacks of Disney calling up Mark and giving him a wtf, back the movie or else!

I regret voicing my doubts & insecurities in public.Creative differences are a common element of any project but usually remain private. All I wanted was to make good movie. Do you think the Mouse was going to make him sleep with the fishes? Or that walrus critter?

Being a war hero who was closer to the pilots than the leadership was ?

Look out! Behind you!

You really believe Mark Hamill, the guy who has always had his heart on his sleeve, would be curtailed by a company he no longer makes movies for? Or perhaps do you think that maybe he is tired of having his own words constantly misquoted, mischaracterized and abused?

It's not a plot hole.

We see a spy of the First Order in Force Awakens. There's no need to re-establish that the FO might be using spies. That's just common sense.

This is like calling it a plot hole when a movie doesn't establish that cops don't share the details of a case with every suspect.

Plus, ya know - fleet admiral. While I've not been in the military, I'm going to guess that a fleet admiral does not have to explain their actions and strategy to Goose and Maverick. Especially when there is a (potential) spy on board revealing their jump ordinates.

When you only believe the negative, you're not being insightful, you're being a misanthrope.

Bah! Multipost!

Now I want a fan vid of Poe in action set to Kenny Loggins' Danger Zone that ends on a freeze frame of him giving the camera a thumbs up.

Which ironically is the size of his Rapier Squadron as well. 4 ^_^
Which he used to disobey orders from the new republic and go onto a goose hunt against the first order … which was the whole reason he got recruited into the resistance. His ability to disobey orders was the reason he got the job from Leia. :)

No but they typically will to their CAG which is who Poe is.

Given Finn (an ex stormtrooper) and Rose (a grease monkey) are able to get a transmission out of the fleet, take a ship, and leave, I don't think OPSEC/COMSEC are the admiral's strong points.

Was. First he got demoted, then the Air Group got kablooied (poor Hallie!). By the time Holdo took charge, Poe was effectively barely in charge of his pants.

I got the impression that without Leia to vouch for him, Holdo wasn't terribly impressed with his antics. And since one of the last things Leia did before getting sucked into space was slap him and demote him (and most of his friends would have been among the pilots that got all blowed up), it's not hard to see why Poe got kept out of Holdo's inner circle.

You left out Poe and the bridge officer who helps them.

And considering she's been in charge for all of an hour or so by the time they enact their plan, it's ridiculous to criticize Holdo for the Resistance's lack of security.

Yep. She even literally tells him “you are not part of leadership anymore.”

I wish he would stop being so overly emotional. ?
