So how 'bout that movie, huh?

Going to take the work crew to see it on Sunday. Despite my reservations about story, context or delivery. I love Star Wars. I saw Phantom Menace more than once and in 3D (blah) so i can definitely watch the last Jedi again. So i will try fervently to polish the gems i see in the movie to shadow over the flaws that i see. I thought Laura Dern was awesome and her plowing the mon calamari cruiser into snokes ship an awesome scene.

You saw it more than once? Congrats. You must be a true fan. I know exactly how many times I saw it - 10, in the cinema. I'd been waiting since 1983, when I watched Star Wars at 4 and had abject terror etched into my brain in the form of a guy who would later be played by a bad actor in a worse film. I saw TLJ, was underwhelmed. I saw it again without my subjective bias, and loved how it gave Star Wars back to the fans. But I'm a fake fan, unlike you.

also I love how we're talking about the implications for our RPGs and not someone's true Scotsman fallacy.

Like

FAD gave us post TLJ force users. Even just all of sequel era force users, with no adjustments needed.

I saw a new hope 8 times empire 13 and return 20. Sat in the cinema at return of the Jedi and waited it out between shows. They didn't kick you out back then. Star wars was the first movie I ever saw in the cinema I was 4. It became part of my dna I jumped on the star wars d6 rpg when it came or in 87 a chance to live it lol. So if I can't hide if I'm underwhelmed by the last Jedi but I'm not going to waive in my love of it. I just have to go through my seven stages and deal then look forward to the next. When you have something so highly place in your mind it becomes easier to be disappointed. /shrug

Which agency do you use?

I think if you're going to recommend people follow in your footsteps it's the decent thing to give them the means to achieve that.

Boring try again

Well your fandom is quantitatively better and bigger than mine, so you're right to suggest that my enjoyment of TLJ is entirely because I am casual and/or not interested in the future direction of this franchise.

I would strongly encourage that the calling stops. It's no longer a constructive argument and is beginning to get really petty. We can have strong opinions but thus far they have been presented in a respectable manner. Take a break for half a hour or something.

Well isn't that funny you took the other stance a second ago by not calling me a real fan please do make up your mind. I don't even see why you are rattling this particular saber. I love star wars, and from I see you love star wars. So their is a divergence as to the particular greatness or lack thereof in this movie. It's not the first time it has happened for star wars and undoubtedly won't be the last. I may lol ***** and moan. I still eagerly await the next installment. Foolish of me, perhaps but that's what star wars means to me and the mix of passion and venom I see for the genre amongst the patrons here I see it in then also.

A side note did anyone say "I have a bad feeling about this" in the last Jedi?

Just stop. Nobody cares how many times you've seen the movies, or how much of a "true fan" you declare yourself to be. You don't like the film, fine. But when you start criticizing others as not being as much of a fan as you, or saying their opinions are invalid because they aren't as big of a fan as you, then you're just being a**hole, and will alienate yourself in this forum community.

Not this time lol

Ok seriously, I don't think anyone trying to use this thread to constructively discuss the pros/cons of the movie give a shi* who started it. How about everyone drop it at this point.

So we are still doing the nerd cred thing? I saw Star Wars for certainly more than 80 times, empire even more and jedi a little less. °_^
And I was old enough to actually have the mental capacities to get at least some to the nuances of the movie, the references, the form of collage from other movies, etc ^_^

You may have Star Wars in your DNA, but well, the movies are more than a 4 year old can comprehend, how unfortunate for you, because TLJ has a similar depth, influences, themes, etc ... you maybe should try to re-watch the original trilogy through the lense of an educated adult with some basic education and knowledge about that shitton of movies star wars is referencing. You might afterwards love those movies even more and maybe start to seem some good in the most recent one. ;-)

Edit:
And I am dead serious about this and mean it in a constructive way. Watch some more movies if you haven't yet, Kurosawa might be a good start and explore from there. :)

This applies to everyone else too. Quit sniping at Splad. Calm down, be cool, lets not turn this into the shitshow that the VII thread turned into.

I know Lucas plagiarized a number of movies and themes. Hidden fortress, lensman, the old republican flash Gordon series, the searchers etc. I know Rian was let off the hook to make a very personal take on star wars and what it meant to him. I threw up a post not to long ago about why Rian made certain choices from an interview he made. It gave me an interesting insight into where he was coming. Like the leia Mary Poppins thing showing that while not taught she had a knew jerk reaction to use the force to protect herself. Also letting Yoda affect the real world, opening the door to many avenues for the force ghosts. It was an interesting read

I'm chill;)

Did you just say ******* plagiarized? You are dead to me. Dead.

I think it was when all of the board tropes were turned on their head in The Last Penguin.
