I'm hoping we see more ships, though I'm not expecting any kind of big fleet battle. I'm kind of hoping that a big shiny fleet engagement might come in VIII as a surprise, kind of like the (amazing!) fleet battle at the end of Rogue One just kind of popped up as a surprise.

That would be sweet.

(P.S. I've not actually seen Rogue One yet, having to wait for it to be released on DVD, but I've read enough about it to know it's wicked awesome)

I wondered what that was for. Thanks!

No problemo!

It's up there with the starship battle at Endor. Rogue One's 3rd act was amazing. I hope we get one like it in VIII, but wouldn't be surprised if we don't see one until IX

The last Jedi will be " DIE LETZTEN JEDI" in german (official german title). The "die" means Jedi is plural. Yes you can`t` hide so much in the very acurate german language. ^_^

I meant Disney's translator.

Would be hard, it's plural in portuguese as well

French reporting in... it's plural too.

Just wondering, does it mean they'll focus on Rey and Luke (aka Last Jedi) or will explain what happened to new generation of Jedi trained by Luke... or both?

I haven't checked any spoilers yet, but it's going to be very hard to avoid them totally.

Hoping for flashbacks cross cutting while the fight in the island happens

I'm thinking "Jedi" is plural here.

A more ambitious theory:

Luke has been chilling in Ireland, I mean a distant planet communing with Obi-Wan, Yoda, and Anakin to bring the end to the Jedi/Sith dual and thus restore balance to the galaxy (Anakin's destiny).

Luke is the last jedi knight and that is now a "good" thing because he's starting up the new Jedi/Sith Knights: ones with control over the whole of the Force, not just the light and the dark.

Crazy...I know...

With the plural confirmed...

Theory CONFIRMED!

:)

Wait for the movie/other info to confirm, hotshot. All we know is that there is a line (which for all we won't know won't be in the final film *looks towards Scarif), which, without context, Luke says he thinks the Jedi (Order?) have to end.

Though, good guess. Props to you, sir.

I think we can place the blame on JJ. I think most of the new characters in TFA were a little underbaked. I like Fynn, but his motivation was a bit murkey. Poe was cool, but his acting was over the top in a places. Rey was cool, but she seems way too competent for someone who has been so sheltered. Is it the Force? Could be. Did she learn it all on junk world? Could be.

I hope the last Jedi fleshes everyone out and makes them more well rounded characters.

In what way was Rey "sheltered"? That usually means someone who has a large support structure that shields them from bad things, making it so they have little in the way of needs that aren't taken care of. By contrast, Rey was alone, living a hard-scrabble life where fighting for what was hers was a regular way of life. She had to learn various skills in order simply to survive. That's about as far removed from sheltered as you can get.

Oh yeah dude. It'll probably be totally wrong when the movie comes out, as they're notorious for sending out distractions...

so im taking full credit for my wild guess now. :)

It could even be Snoke's voice... You never know... Maybe Snoke is a changeling and he tricked Kylo into killing everyone by looking like luke... You never know my friends...

What they pull some Thrawn Trilogy shenanigans and Snoke is basically doing what Palpatine did to Mara Jade?

Kyle Ren hears a voice telling him "You will KILL Luke Skywalker!"

Ok, so Rian Johnson said the title is in the singular, but every foreign title has in plural... Well done Disney...

So translation error...hmmm

Likely, I think the name is more to represent the END of the jedi, and not "who is" the last jedi. Smart play, badly put togheter internationally

It's plural in several different languages. So they really ****** this one up.

Based on where they are going in Star Wars Rebels and Rogue one Luke would qualify as the last traditionally trained Jedi. There are many force users or force sensatives being brought into the universe that are neither Sith or Jedi. The balance that was always being discussed being brought back to the force may be the lack of either camp evil or good. Perhaps Lukes realization that 'the Jedi must end' is playing into that idea. One can exist within the force without being all evil or totally good. To have a camp that worships one method or the other is the inbalance. So maybe the title is quite literal in regards to the no longer training of new Jedi vs something new.
