Star War: The Last Jedi

The Phantom Menace is one of the better titles in the saga in my opinion... Doesn't apply to the film. (Even if i think its ok)

I agree it fits the movie (and trilogy) well, it just doesn't sound very "Star Warsy" to me.

It probably should have been called Return to Tatooine, a Backwater Planet Far From the Center of the Galaxy Where All the Important **** Seems to Happen Anyways

Perhaps Jedi & Sith are two sides of the Force, and bringing balance to it will mean there being no Jedi or Sith in future but something else instead? Something that blends both sides into one school?

A 'third way', if you will.

This has been my theory ever since the prequels. Compared to prequel Jedi, Luke is very gray.

However, assuming it is legit, are they referring to Luke at the start of the film or Rey by its end?

If it's Rey at the end, then I feel like they should have saved this title for Episode 9. It's a much more "last entry in the trilogy" type name.

Too much negativity in this thread.

Just like not all Dark Side Force Users are Sith, not all Light Side Force Users are Jedi. Being a Jedi doesn't just mean that someone can use the Force and chooses to use the Light Side. It has a cultural meaning as well. Being a Jedi means following all the rules of the Jedi Order.

Luke could easily be the Last Jedi, if he decides that the Jedi Order was too rigid, and may have contributed in the fall of Kylo Ren to the Dark Side. That doesn't mean that he won't teach Rey to use the Force and try to keep her to the Light Side, but it may mean that he chooses to do so in a different way than he was taught, and with different rules to guide her.

...

Or it could just be a case of being melodramatic with the title, following the style of the old pulp serials that George Lucas originally partially based Star Wars on, in which case, it's about having found The Last Jedi, but that doesn't automatically mean that Luke will continue to be the last one.

Honestly, I think the latter is more likely, even if I'd prefer the former interpretation. The prequel trilogy made it pretty clear the Jedi Order weren't really all that great, after all!

Hmm, Interesting Title,

Perhaps Luke has recognized some of the failings of the old Jedi order and so determines to be the last of that order. However, he will also recognize that the organization did still have a lot of good in it as well and so will create a new order of trained light-side force users that is not called Jedi.

Hmm I guess I should have updated the comments before making mine. It looks like we were thinking along the same lines.

Jedi is singular AND plural, you know...

My mates and I always debated which of these two fellas was the Last Samurai .. until it clicked that the answer is all of them!

Weird. TLJ looks weird. Oh well, I mean Star Wars never had smart or inspiring titles anyways, I am still looking forward to that movie.

I happen to think that we see the end of the Light and Dark sides of the force. The prophecy of the one who will bring balance isn't about equalising numbers of Jedi / Sith or making one stronger than the other, rather an individual who will master both light and dark. I believe Rey will fill this role. She will be able to utilise the force through a full gamut of emotions.

Rey will be the 'chosen one' from prophecy and the balance of light and dark understanding will be realised.

Yeah, I'm definitely on the side where Luke IS the last Jedi, and only because, after years of introspection, he's realized that, for all the good they did, they were flawed.

His training with Rey is to be something else.

This WOULD sound like a much more epic final entry, though.

As far as titles go:

A New Hope
The Empire Strikes Back

Return of the Jedi

The Phantom Menace (doesn't sound bad, despite not matching the content)

Attack of the Clones (I HATE this title, it's C-level horror movie style)

Revenge of the Sith (Perfect)

The Force Awakens (Unlike all the others, this fails to elicit any positive or strong emotions)

The Last Jedi (I only don't like it because of its relation to Return, it's actually really ominous and I enjoy that, AND it harkens back to Jedi/Samurai relations).

The Force Gets Busy (A Star Wars Story)

I think Disney is going to keep Star Wars PG-13 for now. Man it'll be the day when they release a Star Wars Rated R movie.

If Ezra doesn't meet Kenobi in the Rebels show(or if he doesn't know Ezra is training under a Jedi), then I would think Yoda is referring to Bridger. Seems like Yoda is telling Obiwan some new info, that the "another" isn't Leia.

Star The Last Jedi Wars...weird!

The title fits.

While the film is a total mess, the overarching intrigue of Palpy was nicely thought out. A phantom threat (invasion), instigated by him and controlled by him, leads to him (being the real menace) becoming chancellor.

i imagine its referring to both Luke and Rey. Jedi isnt a singular term, its both singular and plural.

Killing Luke kinda makes no sense (then again Han's death didnt make any sense either plotwise) and we know Rey wont die since shes the new main character.
