Let's Talk About Criticism of Armada (META / COMMUNITY DISCUSSION - No Specific Critiques)

Just an FYI, when you ignore/block someone you can still view their posts. It just says you posted something and if you would like to see it. So I doubt anyone informed Beatty you were directing something at him.

This. But I can see somethings when someone else quotes him. And leading up posts make it easy to figure out what the intended post will be. Otherwise it just says that he posted and I can see it anyways if I wanted. I don't even know what he said this time. I just want the back and forth between us to stop. I've been here since the beginning and mostly enjoy my time here, want that to continue. (And no, I have never had a moderator talk to me either.)

Well, no. I didn't send anything to Beatty. I can attach a pic of my inbox if you really want. I'm TRYING to let all this bs go away, so telling Beatty you are trying to call him a coward is a poor way to do that.

No one needs to protect me (I haven't had a message sent to me in months.) and I don't feel guilty. But again I can see in quotes I am still being attacked and insulted.

Why cant we just let it go? I won't be responding to your insults anymore but I will still be on the forums posting. That's what we're here for.

I agree with Biggs.

Let's act in our online relationships as we would in person. Unless we are jerks in person, in which case let's endeavor to be nicer!

"Nice" as a word in the English language once had the definition "pleasant to eat."

...

Do what you will with this knowledge. But consider it next time you tell someone "You look nice today..." or, even better, "Those clothes make you look very nice..."

That could be appropriate in some cases. I don't judge.

I only asked for it to be considered, after all :D

Why do you assume that isn't how I was using it?

I didn't assume anything about anyone.

Did you tell someone they looked nice today? :D

You're discussing eating people and now you are baring your teeth. Someone get this man a Snickers!

Yet another person trying to kill me...

Just getting to this now. Great first post. Strategy games often attract players with strong opinions. This can often make them strong players who know what they want to accomplish at the board, but it can also create some tense discussions. Some things about the game are frustrating, but what can make for an encouraging and enlightening discussion is being able to recognize that one is frustrated and to communicate that effectively to others. If someone posts and says, "I find X element of the game frustrating, and here's why," it is much easier for everyone to come alongside and empathize, and then to look at possible solutions including whether we've got a problem that is going to require something more than improving one's tactical grasp of the game.

This is a great community. Most of the players are well-behaved. I usually stay out of the really heated threads, but there's some snark that I occasionally see (summarily and sarcastically dismissing the opinions of others is an "in-thing" right now, but on the whole, the consequence of that is people will interact less with you rather than more). I know we've had a rough go at it for a few weeks, and considering I got turned into a meme and had to endure slander of my character from someone outside of the character, I can definitely attest to that difficulty.

There's a lot to like about the game. There's a lot more to like about the quality of people that Armada attracts. :)

Wait, are you the anecdotal Ben? Because if you are my feelings of you being just a good player who was just really hard to beat would be confirmed. I never thought Ben was really a jerk but more of a player who knew their stuff.

Vergilius is, in fact, the Ben of legend. The original Ben. He is the death of Armada hidden behind a thin veneer of man-flesh. He is the Harbinger of meta collapse. Run while you still can. It's too late for the rest of us.

I hope Ben goes to Worlds. He will win because he is Ben, and then Bladewing will have a real reason to complain. He was playing against the sleeping world champ.

I have only ever used it in that context. So far no one has picked up on it in time.

The one, the only. :):)

I make it my point to ask myself what can I do to help ensure the fun of my opponent. I love offering help with fleet builds and knowledge of the game, as can be attested by the countless people who posted a personal character witness when it all went down. In the end, we can only do so much for others and their words and actions may often reflect other situations that they have going on in life as much as it reflects us. The only question is, "What is my responsibility as a decent human being?" I believe that someone else's poor behavior does not excuse my own, and that I retain a responsibility to act with integrity regardless of what they do and say. That does a lot to get me through the random day when I feel like someone took the sense of my words the wrong way or in which I perceived them to be testy. Then, really supportive, kind, considerate friends really make a huge difference as well. :)

Well know the Ben memes I made where not about you, but take pride in being compared to Obi Wan.

Its all good, Beatty. I got a sense out of how the community was taking, and it is exactly the kind of thing that when gamers meet at the big conventions around the country, we joke about over a beer and everyone has a good time.

Also, Biggs did ask and receive permission to put ClassicBen shirts up for sale on the website. I encourage supporting his absolutely incredible blog.

Aren't we all overreacting a bit here. I'm probably in the older bracket of patrons here, and have been on gaming forums for many a year, and I'd say this one on the whole is pretty squeaky clean. You get the occasional loose cannon here and there, but on the whole none of the criticism and the 'armada is this or that' threads ever bother me tremendously.

your mileage may vary on this, of course, but perspective is usually the thing that's first to go when a troll comes to visit. :)

This is definitely true.

Paramedic student here, in my clinicals in the ER, two non-critical patients are all we have had for the past three hours... so bored... have armada stuff in my car... Learning scenario with the nurses? Lol
