The Vic II still needs an upgrade slot for Engine Techs:

Engineering Support Officer (officer slot)

Victory II Class only

I know ... Victory II Class only is rather restricting. And yes ... there is Jerjerrod. But still - I have a strong feeling that Vic 2 (only) needs to get access to support team upgrade cards. And yes - if this uses up an officer slot, none of those will get access to Wulff for auto-speed 3. This is on purpose. You would need to spam navigation commands or get tokens from a different source.

This might not be the most elegant solution - but it would hit the nail on its head.

I think that prior to wave 5 this discussion would have gained more traction. As it is, the vic is one of the most point efficient ships around given all that you get with it, but the tradeoff is that you have to deal with speed 2. It used to be you had to deal turning like a brick and having your brace accuracied everytime you needed it also, but now those are optional problems.

I actually think the Vic I needs it more. Vic II is fine with rolling at speed 2 cuz it gets all its dice at medium, which isn't too hard to manage.

But to play along with your idea. I think it being limited to the Vic II is a bit constraining. I think it would be better received if it was like Tua: Gain a Y slot if you fall in X category.

Empire Support Team: If your max speed is 2, gain a support crew slot.

That way this opens up the possibilities in the future, and can help with what we have now. I'm not a huge fan of upgrades that subsidize you into taking stuff like what they do in X-Wing. Negative point upgrades to make something balanced <_< The Vic right now is a decent ship, but it does lack the versatility of the rest of the Imp stuff.

Nobody loves the Victory Star Destroyer more than I do. So I love anything that "fixes" them. However, I do think it might just be too much to give them Engine Techs. The main reason I think is that it closes the room for a medium ship like the AF Mark II that I hope the Empire gets at some point.

That being said, now that we have Tua, FFG has opened the door to this possibility. I don't think it is a stretch that they add something like this. However there must be some kind of "nullifying" text (Like on Tua) becasue the last thing the rebel scum wants to see is an ISD with engine techs.

Yes ISDs with Engine Techs would be too much - but the good news is: they don't need them.

Yes, this list fails against Rhymer Balls backed by a bunch of flotillas with Bomber Command as well as against few other lists - but the look of 5 VSDs is just so awesome ;)

In general, I think the VSD I is absolutely fine - even now. Its the slow and bulky area denial road blocker. Play smart and have them there where they are pain.

But I am still unhappy with the VSD II, Which should be a more agile yet more expensive gunboat - background-wise and game-wise.

Something like the old Aken title on Shipyards could also work:

This lets the ship make a speed-1 move, then shoot, then make its normal move - in effect a cross between Demolisher and Engine Techs. Note that it was costed for an Acclamator; it'd probably be worth more points on a VSD.
