I've only completed this scenario twice, but I'm not all that keen on, the discarding from the encounter deck, to find a card, type mechanic - it's just so swingy. In my first try, Jazz Mulligan was right at the bottom of the deck, that playthrough didn't go so well, and the game really dragged on quite a bit! On my second playthrough, I found him on my second attempt (my first discard got rid of 4 monsters!) - this time I managed to kill the experiment ;)

I had equally swingy results whenever this mechanic was used in LOTR.

I don't mind discarding from the encounter deck to hunt for a card. That mechanic is OK for me. I really hate discarding from my deck, which is the theme for many encounter cards in this scenario.

personally i love the mechanic of this, as Jazz will never go BACK into the encounter deck, which was a very annoying piece of the LoTR scenario i believe you're referring to.

i like that feeling of, "holy crap is he at the bottom of the deck?" "should i gain 2-3 clues then just discard, discard, discard until i find him?"

also, i dont mind the deck discarding either, as it has a negative associated with it in the scenario in that you can potentially die by losing all of the cards from your deck in conjunction with the 1 sanity you lose from having no cards in deck. it doesn't feel pointless, like, discarding cards just for the heck of it.

Yeah - I don't mind discarding from my own deck as a mechanic, though it can really mess up your game! Or kill you.
