Extreme Heavy Weapon Weight

By Santiago, in Dark Heresy Rules Questions

Okay,

This has been adressed countless of times but I found some "proof" that at least the Heavy Stubber is grossly overweight even by canon standards.

This is a small piece taken from The Siege of Vraks part II

This is without a doubt a heavy stubber, 4'1" long and 7,8kg which might in tern be a bit light since it resembles the MG 34/42 which 12kg approx..

Okay, this is a heavy stubber but I think it is fairly they model usually displayed.

GrtZ,

S.

This one is also a heavy stubber.

browning 50

It weighs 38 kg, with tripod 58 kg. Not counting the ammo. I assume the Stubber in the book comes with bipod and ammo and then those 35 kg's is not so heavy anymore.

I'm pretty sure the stubber in the book comes with a tripod. So you'll save the weight difference by difference and I think that's unloaded weight. There's plenty of guns that weigh that, lots that weigh more and lots that weigh less. The 1917 browning is a 47kg fully loaded.

I do see what you mean, stubbers especially are fat barstewards, which limits there usefullness to the PC (of course for GM's you can put them around with a small chance of the players bothering to drag them around with them).

What I would do is add the Vrakk pattern stubber, increase the price by about 500, reduce the wieght to 15kg, it's got half the clip size and only a bipod. Bearing in mind that this is a background that covers all weapons from bows to graviton guns it's not a massive stretch to assume that there's quite a lot of options lighter Stubbers out there, I'd just make them pay for it if they want it.

Nah, this is still something a big beefy character can handle. You are pretty unlikely to see the skinny Psyker or the Adept that coughs blood into a lace handkerchief on a regular basis lugging one of these back-breaking mothers around, but I can easily see certain Guardsmen, Arbites and Techpriests going for it on the "unsubtle" missions given half a chance. Lift/carry limits are determined by both S and T bonus added together so these are the most likely careers to find this to be manageable. Add the Bulging Biceps talent and you don't even need the bi/tripod anymore (for sheer manly bonus points!). In the novels Chastener Fishig (Arbitrator) made use of a heavy stubber when he could get away with it during Inquisitor Gregor Eisenhorn's investigations.

The absurdly huge Guardsman one-manning a heavy weapon from his hip is well established in GW lore, there having been two separate special characters for the Imperial Guard who solo-crew heavy bolters from the hip! Likewise, I can easily visualize a Techpriest Secutor with a heavy stubber gripped in both hands and an oversized ammo backpack feed held up by his lifter arm, flamer and powerblade dendrites flicking around in search of those stupid enough to get close.... Adepta Sororitas are fanatical enough that a sister could probably manage to fire one with one hand while holding the barrel up with her teeth if she had to (with some hefty penalties!)
