By Vergilius, in Star Wars: Armada Battle Reports

At our local Dragon's Lair, we inaugurated Wave 5 of Armada with a small tournament.

We had a strong crowd of 9 players, not including myself, in a land where Armada is rumored to be dead. The field including Justin Brikhaus's Rieekan Acehole's list, well known as being the runner-up at worlds, and forum sensation and MC30 guru himself, Ardaedhel, and a recent move to the central TX area and forum member, Parkdaddy. We also had two other players who have placed highly in past regional events. In short, I think this was a fairly strong field for a casual tournament and a good test of player's developing lists (The closing Texas regional is in San Antonio on February 11th).

Our results really showed the same archetypes we saw in the previous season remaining strong. We had 5 Imperial lists and 4 Rebels lists. Ardaedhel won with a variant of his MC30 list that is well known and posted elsewhere on these forums. For the tournament, he sampled the Pelta with Shields to Maximum. That included a second round pairing against the Rieekan Acehole list.

Although I had to run out to do an Armada Demo at local Star Wars event with one of our local stores during the second round, I was able to give one of the players a game for his first round bye and could watch the third round as well. Players had a lot of fun and I got to witness a lot of interesting game ideas. One of the players was using Interdictor shennanigans with the new objectives. Another had retooled a Rhymberball to fit in the new Defenders and some of the new upgrades. I got to see multiple Arquitens in action, a couple of Pelta's, a couple of Sato lists, and I think a JerJerrod. If my mind is fuzzy on details, I really should have posted this the night after. My apologies to any players whose specific list details I missed in being able to report here.
