[CCL2] Tie Fighter once again

By Zura, in X-Wing

Heya,

i wanted to make an expansion that would give some life to old ties. I know that they had many relases, but i feel more diversity cannot hurt. I wanted to adress some swarm issues and make "swarm without howlrunner" actually possible. Also, a real ace is going to sit in Tie Fighter.

Here we go, first pilot is:

At first glance, it's easy to call him a gimmicky trash. His strenght lies in his EPT. He actually is the cheapest TIE to carry crackshot. But if you don't adress him soon, he can actually grow in strenght. He messes with targeting priority, and if you play carefully, you can get your almost-Darth-Vader for 13 points.

Second pilot:

Yup, a meta-breaker. He encourages playing generics (not only tie fighters!) and switching off ability can be really deadly. Suddenly jousting dengar doesn't seem a bad idea.

And finally:

Soontir_Fel_Prz_d.png

Soontir actually flew ties, but i didn't feel like copy-pasting his ability, so i made up a new one, showing his adaptibility and enhancing squadron's potential.

And a upgrade to mix things up:

My take on enhancing generic ships. Cheaper predator, but you have to play generics. Fair trade in my opinion.

I hope you like it, please leave an opinion or two, all suggestions are welcome.

You may want to change the wording of Squadron Member to read as "...all other friendly ships..." otherwise it wouldn't work on any of the unique pilots who have an EPT slot

What is the point of Soontir's ability? So another Tie Fighter can use his dial instead of their own same dial? I'm not sure what I'm missing?

P.s. I'm not trying to criticize your designs. I actually really like the rest of them. I love the idea of a Tie fighter boost.

Squadron member should read "pilot abilities", my mistake - i will correct this when i will be on pc. When it comes to Soontir, it's about exchanging the moves. Let's say howlrunner has k-turn dialed and soontir has hard 2. Situation changed and you can "arc dodge" by exchanging dials. What makes his ability powerful is fact that you can field whole squadron of ties and in critical moment, any of them can switch with his dial.

Here's some important rules jargon for you from the Dengar crew card.

Squadron Tactics

"When attacking, if there are no other friendly unique pilots at Range 1-3, you may reroll one attack dice."

I love your thinking! I would use any of these given a chance!

If flying in tight formation it might allow Soontir on the inside of a bank to move a little further and dodge an arc... Or if flying as a loose swarm perhaps allow a black squadron pilot and Soontir (TIE/ln) to both alter their path so they don't crash into a lothal rebel which just parked in front of them.

Got to admit though it's dependant on flying with other ties which arnt Academy pilots (as their low PS is rarely going to give you an opportunity to use the ability meaningfully)... And generally is best when flying as a disorganised swarm which is great cinematically but tiring as hell.

Nice. I would love to see expansions that does things like this. Especially team/squadron upgrades.
