Crazy 8s, Vess, Quis, OLeader. How to fly it?

By Darkcloak, in X-Wing Squad Lists

Here is the list for anyone who doesn't know.

Omega Leader

Juke

Comm Relay

Stealth

Inquisitor

PTL

Autos

V1 Title

Sprockets

Col Vessery

VI

X7 Title

Stealth

100 points.

So basically the idea is synergy with Vessery so he always has two targets for his psuedo TL. OLeader and Quis are proven pilots capable of gaining their points back. At 37 points Vess can struggle to pull his weight but he can be a tremendous asset too in terms of target priority and sheer X7 DISTRACTION! value.

I'm thinking about taking this list to a local tourney and I'm wondering if anyone has any tips for this list. Its a solid list and can even outlast higher PS beatdowns but I know I haven't mastered it yet.

What are my good matchups and what should I look out for?

I know it's not what u asked for but I'd suggest some changes if this is for a tourney :)

inqui < Carnor (PTL,AT, HU)

With this adjustment you get better answers to Attani lists and x7 defenders plus really messes with target priority as OL is protected from focus fire (Carnor at R1 of the ship OL has no TL on). Who you go after first? all are bad options...

I'd also drop VI + stealth on Vesseri for juke and init bid so that if OL dies (unlikely) his damage output stays strong.

good luck !

I hadn't thought of a PTL Carnor! That is a good idea. Though it does lessen the number of available TLs for Vess...

I really like VI on Vess because I find the ability to choose move order to be invaluable during a dogfight. Stealth Devices were kind of an add on at the end because I had so many points left over. I'll try Carnor out though because he would go good with OL. Maybe I'll swap that hull for a TC. If I'm in range 1 and out of arc I'd much rather have the TL.

Swapping in Carnor reduces the effectiveness of Vessery though. And he's very difficult to fly effectively.

Inquisitor with proton rockets is better than Carnor. Especially with as much defense as you already have. I would definitely split inquisitor off from Vess and OL. Bring big rocks and keep inquisitor in the asteroids. Don't rush the proton rockets. Keep inquis at range 3 and eventually the opportunity will come.

I've played that list a few times, won two store kits prior to the X7 being out and then a third with the X7.

I took three large rocks for the list and the FA Damage deck.

Rock placement depended on the opposing list:

Double Large and Swarm: Put all three in a line traveling upwards and deploy your ships in the corner, protected by them. It either forces a joust where large ships cannot sloop due to the rocks or it affords you some range 3 obstructed protection prior to the joust.

Jousters and others: All rocks go in the center, more so on your opponents side with the aim of dragging the enemy through them. Make sure you set up a gap eight ship lengths in to enable you to turn into the center of the board and try to keep a five ship gap after the turn for your Defender to K turn.

The idea behind the list is that Omega Leader and Vessery are the main source of damage and frustration with the Inquisitor sniping at range three whenever possible. With four to five agility you have a lot of protection but we all know how dice can go so make sure you have Vessery on the outside of your formation with the Inquisitor on the inside and Omega bringing up the rear. The reason for this is that The Inquisitor needs to tank the first salvo. With four agility, focus/evade and autothrusters, it will take a full three hits and a massive Zuckuss use to see any damage stick. After that, you hard one turn the Inquisitor, hard three turn Vess over him and do what is needed with Omega. This salvo is going to be devastating.

After that, adjust accordingly. Vess will K turn, no doubt about it but after that, don't be afraid to split up Omega and Inquisitor. Just keep the locks on the priority target just keep firing.

Remember though, you want to pick a key target and ruin it. Fully commit to its destruction, don't chicken out and spread your fire because you don't have the dice to make up for it.

Oh and if you do get a natural three hit roll with Vess, remember to take the target lock anyway, seen so many people forget that.

Would you guys recommend this over double defender and OL?

I've ran Standard Carnor, x7 Juke Rexlar and OL with juke, comm and hull for a long time and love it but Carnor always seems to die pretty fast. So i've lately switched Carnor for a crack shot Maarek. And that's done pretty well but i do love everyone at the same pilot skill.

Would you recommend Inquis over second defender?
