Title - Kanan and stress

By Suro Kawa, in X-Wing Rules Questions

Hi all,

during a game yesterday this question came up.

Rey (62)
YT-1300 (45), Expertise (4), Finn (5), Kanan Jarrus (3), Millennium Falcon (Segnor's Loop Version) (1), Engine Upgrade (4)

Rey was stressed, can she still execute a 3 bank and S-Loop?

Executing a 3 white, Kanan kicks in, removes the stress, do the S-loop then receive a stress? Or am I getting the timing wrong?

Kind regards,

Suro

This one again?

The triggers have the same timing so they can activate in any order the player chooses. So, your example does work: White move ---> Kanan to clear stress ---> Title to Sloop ---> Receive fresh stress.

Sorry for the inconvenience, I appreciate you taking your time to formulate an answer.

Don't take it personally mate; it's just that this question pops up incredibly frequently. A quick search of the rules forum would have found you at least half a dozen threads asking the same question in this month alone.

Unfortunately the search engine provided is practically useless. It requires a manual search.

Agreed. It does not work at all.

I'm confused by this. The FAQ on this card Kanun Jarrus states that his ability is triggered after the cleanup substep of the execute maneuver phase. Doesn't this mean that his ability comes after the completion of an S-Loop and NOT before? Example: I can see clearly how his pilot ability can clear a stress taken from performing the S-Loop. I don't understand according to the timing though how he can clear an existing stress BEFORE completing an S-Loop.

Is it the 'title' card which makes the completion of an S-Loop fall into the same timing area as Kanun, being performed after the cleanup substep of the perform maneuver phase? Or does the 'title' not have to be executed before the cleanup substep, therefore having to occur BEFORE Kanun's ability triggers but also AFTER the check pilot stress step which would prevent the completion of the title ability? Please clarify.

More accurate question.

The title and kanan both happen after the cleanup substep of a maneuver. The title doesnt turn the maneuver into a red sloop, so the player picks which one happens first (sloop title -> kanan).

The title is referred to as a sloop for simplicity. Nowhere does the card actually SAY "Sengor's Loop" or treat a maneuver as something else. It operates the same as Lightning Reflexes, just with a specific maneuver rather than maneuver type.

  1. Perform white 3bank
  2. "After maneuver" abilities may trigger now
  3. Title is chosen to go first: rotate ship 180 and take a stress (note: NOT A SENGORS LOOP even though the behavior is the same)
  4. Kanan goes next: remove 1 stress.
  5. Continue onto next step (Actions)

If the title was worded as "When you reveal a 3bank, you may treat it as a red 3sengor's loop" or gave you the stress at a different timing window (Before you take your action, receive 1 stress) then kanan wouldnt be able to impact it. The reason he cant touch the other "white moves" is because theyre self-contained effects (Daredevil) and kanan triggers in the middle of it before the stress is applied.

Alright so the title card and the Kanun card both occur at same timing point, therefore the player can choose which order to resolve them. This means then that a player can do a 3 bank maneuver WITH stress, use Kanun's title, clear stress, flip ship then take a new stress or do the same thing without a stress token during manuever, take the stress first from flipping, then use Kanun to clear stress.

Very flexible.
