UXARC, what to do ?

By infyrana, in X-Wing Squad Lists

My small Rebel's X-Wing collection might be expanding with the surprise addition of a U-Wing!

I hadn't thought of using this expansion before so I'm behind in understanding the ship, the crew+upgrades and what it's capable of. For Rebels, I only own an ARC-170 along with both Core Starter Set x-wings (T-65 + T-70) which I've been using together in a single 3-ship list as I continue to learn the game/cards etc.

Please could I request a little help in creating some list ideas which incorporate the U-Wing ?

Doesn't matter which of the other three ships are used as long as the list is not too challenging to use. Feel free to make use of any upgrades etc as I'm happy to proxy for now. Thank you!

Bodhi Rook with Fire Control System, Jyn Erso, Jan Ors and Pivot Wing is a well-rounded support ship.

Really nice list here:

Biggs

R5P9

IA

=28pts

Heff Uwing

FCS

Zeb

Jyn Erso

Tactical Jammers

Title

=30pts

Norra

PTL

R2D2

Tailgunner

Engines

Title

=42pts

Fly biggs behind heff for 3 green dice. Let heff use jyn ersa to give biggs tokens for defense and regen. Block opponents with Heff.

Norra can fly in and out of Biggs protection, trying to get enemy to split fire, and she can rejoin to regen. After biggs drops Norra is tanky, keep heff between enemy and Norra and let her do her thing.

@ jmswood What would you propose to fly alongside that setup please?

@ wurms Thanks! Tactical Jammer gives the third dice to Biggs? Is it best to start a game with open or closed wings on the U-Wing? I'm guessing in Attack position for the increased agility. Will definitely have to give this list a go now, cheers.

-Heff is a great blocker, and when someone bumps him he can Jyn/Jan to buff another ship in your squad.

-Bodhi is good with Norra because he can fly ahead of her to extend the range of her target locks. Ideally he blocks for her to deny the opponent actions. He uses Jan/Jyn to boost Norra's offense and defense.

-Cassian is great because he can support an Ace using Push the Limit. Cassian's ability eliminates the need for the ace to use green moves to clear stress. This makes your squad's maneuvering less predictable. With Cassian's EPT slot you can make him a more effective combatant. It's expansive, but the combination of Expertise and Fire Control System means his action is always free for Jyn/Jan.

If the enemy is shooting through Heff at Biggs, then biggs gets an extra dice because Heff counts the same as an obstacle.

Just start in attack mode, but you can safely switch to landing once the attacking starts because enemy has to shoot at Biggs first unless they have ordnance.

R4d6 integrated Biggs and ptl tailgunner r2d2 vectired norra leaves 34 points

Gets you a very good Cassian at the very least

Norra likes cassian

Fcs and rey are the cornerstones to any good U build . **** is clunky and needs action independent dice modifiers

31 points

Can then just lop on plasma torps and gchips and adapability

Gives you two powerful ps 7 alpha strikes on top of everything

you go to print and hit "fancy", which will print out your list with all the card text on the paper

proxy away!

any group that's at all with playing in will allow proxies of upgrade cards (ships dials and bases, not so much; get permission first)

edit: don't forget Adaptability...like I did <_<

My only problem with Jyn Jan is Jyn. Sometimes you might not even have 1 enemy in arc and then she's useless. But she's the only way to feed tokens to other ships so... If you want a selfish U wing I think rec spec/Jan van is better.

Some excellent suggestions, thank you all very much ! I got a lot to learn about each of the lists and ideas with plenty to practice now :)

@ ficklegreendice So we played this list today for a bit of fun (I ran QD+Ryad+Inqi and gave your list to my opponent). We called it on time since we were reading through the cards every time we did anything, I lost the Inquisitor first and then managed to down the U-Wing, total hull and shields remaining put Rebels 2 ahead - that could easily have changed.

With regards to the cards:

- Plasma Torpedoes - we still rolled defense die and I successfully blocked all hits, so we chose not to "remove 1 shield token" since the attack did not hit. Is this correct? Couldn't find any google samples.

- Norra's ability effectively acts as if you have another physical die sat there with the focus side up once you've met the conditions?

Rey's ability looks like it could have been very useful through the game. Sadly due to a poor early choice and mistake, this didn't get used (small table and an early bump from low pilot skill Biggs into the back of the U-Wing meant the U-Wing's focus got used up in defense). R4-D6 will be useful in the long run but didn't come into play this game, IA would have played out happily given another turn. Cassian's ability didn't really get used, especially given the limited use of PTL on the ARC, hopefully learning when to use all of this will come with practice.

Watching your list play out in unskilled hands really shows just how much flying skill is needed to make the most of the likes of Biggs+ARC+U-Wing. When I compare it on paper to other lists I see and am thinking of trying eventually, it just doesn't initially look very tanky or full of firepower, but you can see there's room for potential in the right hands - will definitely try it out again. Where as on the flip side, the solo artist Imperial list I played was like running three individual guided missiles just waiting for their preferential opportunity of attack. I lost Inqi' because I got him into the thick of it for maximum carnage and left him in all three firing arcs having misjudged movement - Biggs rolled 4 perfect hits to my blank greens :)

2. Any ability that says "add x result" litterally means put a corresponding number of dice in the pool with the specified result. In Norra's case, you spend the target lock and put one more die on the table with a focus side up.

Limited use of ptl is a problem

Norra should be spamming that **** EVERY TURN that you can TL

Welcome to X-wing! :D

Thank you for the answers to my questions - yes, we did remember to roll attack die *phew* :)

I realised that PTL wasn't getting used enough and will be addressing that next game. The undersized table doesn't help much in terms of movement potential, but we're enjoying the early and close dogfights that it forces.

Thank you for the answers to my questions - yes, we did remember to roll attack die *phew* :).

I asked because I've seen new players assume the red number on a Torpedo is an automatic number of hits, instead of the number of dice rolled.

I asked because I've seen new players assume the red number on a Torpedo is an automatic number of hits, instead of the number of dice rolled.

I had also thought this but found some posts and videos which clarified the need to roll attack as normal. Was also not sure if you could roll defense and didn't read anywhere suggesting they were automatic hits so I chose to run with the 'don't do what it doesn't say' mantra. Thankfully all these little clarifications following their use on the tabletop is helping to make them stick!
