60 pnt Tourney - T-70's or Ties?

By Calaith, in X-Wing Squad Lists

Hi all,

In about a week I'm going to my first store run tournament which happens to be a fairly casual 60pt affair. Rules of engagement are that all lists must have minimum two ships, only a single large base ship, no epic ships, and previous winners have to use a different list than last time.

I have two possible lists I wanna run. Looking on advice on either and which one will likely get further...

List 1- "Resistance Fighters"

Red Ace w/ R2-D2, Inegrated Astro - 33

Jess Pava w/ BB-8, Int Astro - 27

Idea is that they stay close together to buff Jess, while Red Ace tries to make it into the late game and outlast the enemy.

List 2- "v1 Test Flight"

Valen Rudor w/ Thread Tracers, Tie/v1, Guidance Chips - 24

3x Academy Pilot - 36

I've read that Tie swarms aren't looked upon very favourably at 60pt tourney's for being a bit of a cop out. I tried to be a little creative with mine, the idea is that in a single turn I blow apart one ship using Tracer Threads to buff my entire squad. Then numbers take care of the rest. Is this competitive or a little soft?

There's bound to be someone who brings a pair of /x7 Obsidian Defenders. Not suggesting you do so but worth considering how you would fight them.

So I ran my T-70 list twice tonight and went 1-1. First pilot had a Tie/FO and a Defender but was really new to the game and so beaten pretty handily. The loss was close-ish but came from a pair of kitted up K's using plasma torpedoes to strip the shields off Red Ace quickly and a silly manoeuvre on my part that saw Red finished by two bombs.

What I noticed was that I felt like I didn't have a lot of damage mitigation except for the regen, especially being used to having the evade protection goodness of fully kitted Interceptors. As such I've devised an alternative list that doesn't have the regen but uses other tricks to prevent overwhelming damage. Advice on whether this new list or my original would do better (especially against defenders) would be helpful!

"Resistance Fighters 2.0"

Ello Asty w/ Trick Shot, BB-8, Int Astro, Black One - 33

Jess Pava w/ Targeting Astro, Int Astro - 27

Total - 60

The idea is that Black One prevents target locks from punching through damage and Ello can turn to keep the enemy in arch with few consequences. I'm open to suggestions on Jess' Astro, but it's intended that she can turn with Ello and still punch out damage, or keep up rerolls even if she is seperated or last woman standing, thoughts?
