So we finally finished Troubled Waters last week after about 2 full 4-6 hours sessions. It was a brutal slog, but in the end, the heroes pulled out a very surprising victory. (I may put a session report up at some point).
I have been putting off making this post since I never seem to have the campaign book and the computer in the same location at the same time, but here goes anyway. If anyone has the campaign book, please feel free to correct my wording.
A couple rules came into question;
1. The Quest rules state "Pit spaces to not operate as normal. When a hero or bone horror enters a pit space, place that figure in the closest available space adjacent to a portal." So How does this apply to pets such as Sky, Reanimate, or Wolf? Can they enter the pit? Is it a pit to them? Or can they use it as a portal?
( Understanding of the rules says 'no', since they are not heroes in terms of reading the quest rules, and so to them, its just a normal pit.... which Sky ignores. We house ruled it such that they could enter the pit/portal as heroes.)
2. The Quest also states "When adjacent to a portal, a hero may enter the portal as an action. Place the hero in the closest space adjacent to a pit space or portal." Again, figures treated as heroes don't usually get actions allowed by quest rules, however this would leave pets 'stuck' in the portals unless re-summoned, and is even worse for Sky, since Sky can not be re-summoned unless she is on the hero sheet, leaving her stuck forever unless the portal is closed.
( Again we ruled that pets could take an action to enter the portal as heroes... even sky)
3. Quest rules state "When Zarihell sufferes (hearts) equal to her life total she is not defeated. Place a (fatigue) counter on her base to indicate that she is unconscious. When unconscious, Zarihell does not block movement or line of sight. At the start of the OL turn, if Zarihell is unconscious, she recovers (hearts) equal to her life total and is stunned."
So at some point the heroes got clever and reduced Zarihell to 2 hp, then went to do the final portal room (no portals were closed), leaving sky to follow Zarihell around the map. Once the final portal was disenchanted, heroes started closing all 3 portals in the same turn, such that the final portal was destroyed in the following round during the heroes turn. All 3 monster groups spawned in the marsh tile during the heroe turn, then Zyrah popped his heroic feat to make an attack from Sky (who was still following Zarihell around) and killed her.
So the question here is... could Zarihell have walked into the hazzard space to deal 2 damage to herself, and regen to full?
Hazzard space says "If a figure ends its turn on a hazard space, it is immediately defeated." So if Zarihell takes her last point of damage by stepping into a hazards space, she is not defeated and becomes unconscious... but then she ends her turn, and if still in the hazard space is defeated without suffering damage up to her health..... right?
I chose not to do this since I kinda liked their solution to an absolutely brutal quest, but I kinda wonder if I had a way out of this.
