Intimidation

By Nickel, in X-Wing Squad Lists

I'm trying to create a list for an upcoming tournament and wanted to use some of the new Wave 10 stuff, particularly Expertise and Inspiring Recruit. I'm having trouble filling the third ship in the list. I want something better than a Z-95. I had originally thought about using Zeb in the Attack Shuttle or a generic A-Wing as a flanker, but then I thought about using Arvel Crynyd to ram/block with Intimidation while Kenyan and Horton shoot from far away. Thoughts?

I think you're going to lose. Badly.

The amount of defense in your list doesn't measure up against the damage you will take against any of the netlists I can think of. Keyan and Horton have plenty of offensive dice mods to push damage through, but the good news ends there. As an opponent I would take out Farlander first, and a lot of my lists (and a lot of other people's lists) will kill him in the first round of shooting or early in the second. In two rounds or less you're at a massive offensive disadvantage. Let's assume you destroyed one of my ships in the first exchange, but without Farlander it multiplies the likelihood that the upcoming exchange will not be 1 for 1. I still have plenty of tools on the table to take out Horton in another 1-3 rounds of shooting. I haven't forgotten Arvel, he will be annoying, but I'm not horribly concerned either. His one advantage can be avoided and his offense can be endured while harvesting a plump 75 points MoV from the reaping of the rest of your practically defenseless ships.

A solution to the problem stated above would be to swap Keyan out for a Ghost. Upgrades to flavor.

I tried that exact Keyan build paired with Rey at league last night:

Rey(45)

Expertise (4)

Finn (5)

Kanan Jarrus (3)

TFA Falcon title (1)

Tactical Jammer (1)

Smuggling Compartment (0)

Inertial Dampeners (1)

Keyan Farlander (29)

Rage (1)

Heavy Laser Cannon (7)

B-Wing/E2 (1)

Inspiring Recruit (1)

Collision Detector (0)

99pts

Faced off against 3 x Wardens with extra munition cluster mine loadouts, advanced slam, Sabine, Intel Agent, Cassian Andor, and one of them had a seismic charge. Keyan's dial was problematic against this build. He did do some damage with the hlc but in this particular match against dial peeking, mine laying K-Wings, I would almost rather have run him with Hera crew, FCS, and a different ept ... maybe Stay on Target for some added dial unpredictability. Not as efficient as Rage's synergy with Keyan's pilot ability and Inspiring Recruit but Hera opens up that dial. Still, B-Wing's melt quick and a 39pt Keyan could be taken off the board in one round of combat. For instance, the other day I tried the same Rey build but with Swarm Leader instead of Expertise and took 2 x Green Squadron Pilots with title, ptl, trick shot, and chardaan. Rey steals evade tokens from the A-Wings and adds two dice to her attack. She could technically, with some dice luck and the right crits, one shot a B-Wing at range 1 with this build. Now that's a fun list to try in our casual league but I wouldn't take it to a tourney. But to jmswood's point, even janky lists like this can wipe a B-Wing in one round.

Rey with Expertise on the other hand is amazing. She won me my match last night. Expertise with Finn gives her very consistent damage output and having a focus token for defense, especially through her front arc with Finn's added blank reroll, is a tremendous boost to her defense. Add in Kanan's sloopy goodness and the threat of Inertial Dampeners and it's a mean ship. I want to try that same Rey build (sans tac jammer) but, as 4fox100 suggested, drop Keyan for a beefier VCX-100.

I agree Rey rocks, I play Keyan for fun builds because I love B-wings and do get tired of my tourney capable builds. Lothal isnt a bad idea. I've managed to get a double kill in one round with Rey using BMST and EI (paired with Norra), but prefer engine upgrade overall. Some games I never use EU to much effect but others I arc dodge & close for some harsh range one action!

Since I've been playing Heroes of the Aturi Cluster with my weekly group I haven't really played a regular X-wing game in a few months, so I didn't mind taking a "fun" list. I did tweak it a bit to mitigate some of it's weaknesses while also experimenting with some of the new Wave 10 cards.

The first round was against a kid with a mini-swarm: Quickdraw, Inquisitor, and 2x Zeta Squadron with Comm Relay. I bumped Keyan into the back of the Y-Wing in the first round of combat and died soon after. Ello Asty was an All-Star, dancing around the TIEs and recovering shields. The game went to time, but I won 81-63.

The next match was against a Tarn Mison, Resistance Sympathizer, and Red Squad Vet with Adaptability down to PS3. I lost 100-0 and this was the only match I was forced to use Integrated Astromech.

The final match was against a Rey & Snap Wexley list. My opponent set up directly across from me and boosted Rey into combat on the first turn. The dice were a lot more friendly to me, although I did lose Keyan shortly afterward. I managed to outthink my opponent and set Rey up into a killbox when he tried to run away with her. I won 100-39.

I ended up 2-1, and 6th place out of 12.
