Vengeful impulses (no spoilers)

By Lilikin, in Mansions of Madness

Anyone played the new scenerio for Beyond the threshold, if you have what is your experience? (Please don't spoil)

It's rated at 2 stars but I didn't feel it was all that easy at all

I'm not the greatest player but in other scenario's I have found that even if I lost, I knew why what does everyone else think?

My first play through I was trounced in the "finale" mainly due to a poor choice of characters that left me with an unbalanced team. The second time through, with a far more balanced team stat-wise and knowing the basics of what I had to do, I won fairly easily, with only a couple of setbacks. (Sorry, trying to remain as vague as I possibly can :) ). I would say the two stars can be deceptive (some of those mythos events are brutal) but compared to say Shattered Bonds, it is certainly a less taxing overall scenario on investigators.

To be honest I really liked the scenario and how the story progressed. Without spoiling anything, the ending left me a bit disappointed though (it was the good ending I think, not sure how many there are). I played with four investigators and besides a few Mythos events that unluckily seemed to fixate on the same character, all went well.

The disappointment lies with the last battle. Once we discovered who the killer was and transformed into a monster (another two showed for good measure), we seemed to be able to kill it quite fast, and once dead the escenario simply ended, no need to move anywhere else or kill the other monsters. It was a bit anticlimactic)

Regarding the star rating, sometimes I find it confusing. For example I am yet to win Escape from Innsmouth but I completed Shattered Bonds on my first try with a few friends.

This is because the main focus of the scenario is a bit different than usual, so that what you put in a spoiler becomes secondary to what you achieved before

Yeah I do understand that, and I liked the Agatha Christie style scenario. However the ending left me a bit underwhelmed unfortunately. That's not to say the scenario was bad at all and I found it very interesting, I look forward to give it another go (there seems to be another map at least and other characters unless I'm wrong).

Indeed, there should be another map (sorry, don't remember exactly the details, it's 5 months since my latest playthrough with this one).

I get your point over the finale :) I personally don't mind it: we have some scenarios that are actually very heavy on combat, and some other scenarios that are lighter. And having not exactly a super-healthy final boss could add a bit of variance to the games, with the idea of covering as much as possible the taste of all players playing Mansions. Then clearly, this means some won't be happy with this scenario, as others won't be happy with Cult of Sentinel Hill, and it's of course 100% fine :)

If you want the final combat to be more difficult, you can easily implement a buffer of damage for the final enemy, so that you start adding dmg to the monster via the app after a certain threshold's passed (let's say 10-12 extra damage?)
