Was thinking of getting this game cause I love the Aliens universe, and its a miniatures game. Only thing I heard bad about it is the mini's do not come put together and they are a pain in the ass to assemble and break easily. Also they do not come painted either. As someone who has never assembled a miniature or painted one before it scares me to pay the $18 price tag to just end up breaking most of the minis. Anyone here actually play it?
Aliens vs Predator the Hunt, opinons?
I have it and beeing a miniature wargamer I didn't have any problems assembling them, only mistake i made was i didn't know the Runner Aliens(in the game they have a different name) had numbered legs which were made for a specific body but they still look good, I'm nkt surr if the normal ones had that too. About breaking yes some pieces like the Aliens tails or the Pedators spear are thin but they have too otherwise it would look silly, bjt i have never broken one of them, one Alien came with broken finger but the finger was in the box so i could fix that. The quality and detail of the miniatures is great, these are wargame miniatures not boardgame ones, they will release wargame rules later.
On thing for you i read that they will be releasing a new box with one piece or preassembled miniatures.
Rulewise it's ok, i got the 1.1 version of tbe rulebook which had quite some mistakes and oversights (Aliens could be hurt by their own blood) but they released a updated version and the changes seemed good, haven't read it only the let' say cnangelog.
But with a little thinking i relly had fun with the old rules, haven't tried the new ones yet.
Unboxing of my game in a german forum: https://www.gw-fanworld.net/showthread.php/213851-Aliens-versus-Predator-The-Hunt-begins?highlight=Alien+hunt
you might not be able to understand what is written but you can still look at the pictures.
If you have questions just ask.
Edited by Iceeagle85so they are releasing a new version soon? Do you happen to know when that will be coming out cause I may just wait till that. I read that our tax refund are being delayed to after Feb 15th so I will prolly wait till my tax return to buy. Is there a good amount of expansions to buy? I think I saw a queen alien and some other type of alien

I don't know a release dat for the new version, i got it from a german miniature wargaming news site and they just posted an article from Ulisses (they make the geman versions of the Prodos games) in which they talk about the translation of Warzone 2.0 and there they mention that AvP2 was shown on the gaming exhibition they were (don't know which one) and that the single piece minaitures look fantastic and as soon as the have a possible release date they will begin with the translation.
It does not mention what AvP 2 is, but the game isn't that old and after the problems with the kickstarter and the release of the 2.0 rulebook which has i laready said quite some changes i don't think it is a new version, probably just one piece minis (because the old miniatures need to be build as you siad and are made out of resin) which are better suited for boardgamers and they will probably include the 2.0 rulebook, but that is just my guess googling for AvP The Hunt begins 2/new version got no results.
Yes there are quite some expansions, just look at Prodos website , for the Aliens you can get Warriors, Predalien, Queen, Facehuggers, Crusher, Royal Guard and of course more Infants and Stalkers which are included in the base game.
Tthe Marines get a Wayland Yutani Commando Squad, a Powerlifter and Sentry Guns and of course the Marine Squad from the base game the rulebook also mentions Sergeant so they will hopefully be released some time in the future.
The Predators can get Young Bloods, Hellhounds and of course the box with the 3 Predators from the base game.
But i'm sure there will be more, somwhere i've read about getting miniatures for people from the movies, my one gripe with the miniatures is that the have no extra pieces for customisation so every 5 man Marine Squad will look exactly like the one from the base game same goes for the Predators and the poses of the Aliens but for the Aliens it's not that annyoing they all look the same after all and you can bend tails and legs/arms with hot water or do wounds/combat damage.
If you or someone else is interested i could do a rules summary on sunday.
I just recently got a couple packs of figs from this game for a different project. Maybe the stalker aliens are supposed to be small, but I thought they were TINY for supposedly 30mm scale figs. I also think the resin feels even more brittle than is typical for resin figures. As a decades long wargamer with a fair amount of experience assembling resin figs, I felt these were going to be too much of a pain to assemble and didn't even bother.
Like I said, I only got the figs, but I have heard people criticizing the game itself pretty heavily as well.
Overall, I was convinced not to bother with the game, and was glad I didn't back the kickstarter.
I didn't find the resin brittle and i have also been in miniature wargaming for quite some time and have worked with different resin miniatures, and about the size well the Stalker are not standing upright so of course they are small and i think they are the smallest of the Alien miniatures, the Infants and Warriors are bigger.
Size comparison of the base game minis done by me can be found here .
I'm one of the unfortunate people to have been burnt by the Kickstarter for this one which has left me over 3 years later still missing £180 of stuff...
I did however get the base game and some extras and can say that the miniatures are some of the most high quality ones available on the market.
Painting Aliens is pretty easy really and you can get good results easily. Marines and Predators will be harder. I would not say the building and painting required is particularly beginner friendly though. You might want to practice on some hard plastic miniatures first.
The game itself I'm not massively keen on. The rules are very convoluted for a board game, but that said I've not played it yet. I'm still waiting on the hardback miniatures rule book which hopefully addresses all the problems.
It's a shame because it's a great licence and on the whole a high quality product that has been messed up by poor management. I think that if it were ever to explode, the ship has sailed, and I don't think a meaningful community for the game itself is likely to develop now. That said, for that reason you can find the models quite cheap at some places.
So the second version of the game will be released on 17th or march and will cost 48,99 pounds, which is cheaper than the old box but i think that is because the miniature are unicast, changes are:
QuoteREDESIGNED MINIATURES
All models have received fresh design and looks. Characters are more dynamic now and we are introducing built-in terrain bases as well.
IMPROVED RULESET
Second Edition of AVP contains all the patches and erratas we have collected over last year of testing and collecting feedback.
THE LAST STAND MODE
You can play with your fiends in cooperative way using The Last Stand Mode from First Edition. Aim of the game is simple - destroy Spawning Points of Xenomorphs, while Horde of Aliens is trying to do what they do best. Horde is controlled by The Game, while your brave Marines Squad or Predator Pack are controlled by players
PACKAGING
AVP Second Edition is now in different box, in a square shape , instead of rectangular one. It will fit stacks of your favorite board games perfectly and it's much easier to handle now.
MINIATURES ARE UNICAST NOW
Biggest improvement has been done with models - you can place them on board straight from the box! No assembling required , no gluing, no cutters - just open a game and play!
PROTECTIVE FOAM INSERT FOR MODELS
After you finish playing, you can assembly the game and put models back into the box without any risk of damaging them . All this thanks to protective foam we have used for miniatures.
REVAMPED ARTWORK
We have spent a lot of time improving our assets, which results in new design of tiles, we are using for a game.
on the same day the wil also release the Second Edition Upgrade Kit which it seems contains the new rulebook, cards and tokens and they will also release AvP: Unleashed which is the rules for the miniature wargame.
It seems they changed a lttle bit more than the rules + minis.
