Calling all Mods: multiple mods per ship

By Punning Pundit, in X-Wing

I've been thinking about a potential rules change that would let ships take 2 mods- provided that their total value was 4 points or less.

In my mind, the big winner is the T-70, which can take both IA and Autothrusters.

But you'd also let A-Wings and TIE Adv. Prototype take autothrusters + Guidance Chimps.

So: is there anything obviously broken? Anything that becomes OP? Any good combinations that make a ship suddenly viable?

Miranda wants Vectored Thrusters, Advanced Slam, G-Chips and Long Range Scanners.

Letting her have 2 of the 4 is a start.

Whisper getting both cloaking mods is pretty spiffy for her.

Every Soontir would slap on the Hull Upgrade or Targeting Computer.

Asajj would probably pick up the Gyroscopic Targetting in addition to the EU that the PtL builds use.

Also, other things.

Guidance ships and LRS/Munitions Failsafe on a Munitions swarm might be a bit painful.

That would be 6 points. I've built in a 4 point combined max.

Guidance ships and LRS/Munitions Failsafe on a Munitions swarm might be a bit painful.

In my mind, LRS is self limiting by having the range 1-2 restrictions. It might make for a terrifying Bandit strike, though!

Gama vets with PTL, GC and TIE mrk 2 might be horrifying to face.

Sure, but reading comprehension is hard.

Every Soontir already gets two mods - with no point restriction either.

As of now there are only 3 ships that can equip 2 modifications: TIE Interceptor with the Royal Guard Title; YT-1300 and YT-2400 with smuggling compartment modification.

The Royal Guard title is only restricted by pilot skill and the actions the TIE Interceptor already has. (You won't be putting EU on it).

Smuggling compartments takes up a modification slot but allows you to bring another modification costing up to 3 points.

However the two do bring up both different ways of equipping two modification upgrades. One is built into the modification upgrade while the other uses an upgrade slot outside the modification thus being the one tru way of equipping a modification.

There is one other method in the design space that hasn't been used and that is pilot ability. Problem with that is if there are no good builds two modification builds for that ship at said pilot skill then it becomes a similar situation to Fel's Wrath where the pilot ability just isn't used much.

I like it for the T-65 and the Kihraxz.

X-wings with integrated astro and guidance chips would be interesting

Punishers/bombers could run lightweight frame with a munitions mod which seems pretty snazzy.

Without a specific restriction any ship that could take autothrusters will suddenly just take 2 copies because yes. Making that restriction match royal guard tie (no duplicate mods) is simple and fixes this obviously.

You could also see T-65s with IA and Engine Upgrades, or IA with Vectored Thrusters.

Guidance ships and LRS/Munitions Failsafe on a Munitions swarm might be a bit painful.

The Bandits would at least be limited by the need for the target to be in R3. They could take the Failsafe, but lack the Proton slot for LRS.

TIE Bombers could do some bad things with LRS and Guidance Chips. The ability to have fully modded Homing Missiles with a guaranteed hit result would probably push Soontir even farther out of the meta than he currently is.

Then again it could do some good for Bombers, The reason why LRS isn't taken because of guidance chip. Thing is Bombers just got their upgrade so how would you make a modification or title that only targets TIE Bombers and TIE Punishers without giving K-wings another toy to go smash around imperials?

That's easy: a munitions-oriented modification with a TIE-only restriction. That would limit it to Bombers, Punishers, the Advanced (v1 and Prototype), non-x7 Defenders, and the TIE/sf.
