Will we ever get the Venator?

By mad mandolorian, in Star Wars: Armada

the venator is a beautiful ship, possibly my favorite capital ship, has the shape of a star destroyer but the notches make it look so different.

now at the end of RotS we see the empire using them and they would be a big tool in the imperial fleet as they acted as battle carriers rather than ships of the line.

i might be asking for too much now but i'd like the venetor to have decent front and side fire arcs (interdictor level) and come with some v-wing squadrons as those were also used until the tie fighter replaced them

it'd also be nice for the dreadnought to be added to both sides

It has a fair bit of community support but it comes into play at a bad point in the timeline. FFG has been pretty clear that they want to focus on the Galactic Civil War (Rebs v Imps/ Rebels Eps IV-VI) and Venator predates that.

But abandon not hope, nor allow despair to darken your door. The Scrugg fighter piloted by Nym is pretty much soley Clone Wars era tech. At least as much as the Venator, which I believe also saw some Imperial use. So there is some precedent. Z95's also, granted to a much, much lesser degree.

I read somewhere that the Arquitens was an older Republic ship too. X-Wing has older stuff too, so there is still hope.

Short answer: I bet yes. Though Im uncertain for who (Republic as a Clone Wars release or Imperial)

I suspect the Venator is only a matter of time. All it takes is for 1 to show up in an episode of Rebels and viola. I wouldn't count on the Dreadnought though.

Could be a dual-faction ship. They were used by Imperial forces for years, and supposedly many were basically left to rot. Enterprising rebels could easily have acquired several and modified them to serve their needs.

This is exactly what I was going to post. Right now , I doubt it. It's a maybe based on mention in books (... right?). But if a working one shows up in Rebels in active service for the Empire (or even used by the Rebels for more than a single episode), I'd put money on it.

Well, there is certianly the image of one hanging behind Grand Moff Tarkin when he's sitting in his Office in Rebels....

So.... Y'know... It appears.

It is very unlikely that a Venator will appear in Rebels as a significant combat ship. The tech in Rebels is moving in the opposite direction (think Interdictors, TIE Defenders and Interceptors, B-Wings, etc.).

I don't think any old Clone Wars ships are going to be showing up to the fight the rebels any time soon.

I still think we'll see it in Armada sometime. There just aren't many capital ships left to do.

Yet, in their own stead, the Pelta and the Arquitens are themselves, both Old Clone Wars ships.........

Featured instead of appearing, maybe?

The Arquitens is a clone wars era ship that not only shows up in rebels but is pretty heavily featured.

A Venator appears behind Tarkin as a holo, and I don't doubt we'll see one at some point, probably in a refit format like the Arquitens.

I love the model, and I would love to have the ship.

To be fair the Arq is clearly shown as being used in the Clone Wars by the Republic too and post Republic like the Venerator. I think they are debating on releasing the V as a carrier/gunboat or going hardcore carrier with the Quasar. I kinda hope they DON'T do the quasar right now since squadrons just got a big release. I would like a ship focused wave for 6

Agreed. I'm a squadron nut but they have recieved a ton of love. Lets see something interesting on a medium/large base next wave that just wants to raib destruction through the stars with big pew pew cannons.

I saw this at work today, and I instantly heard Ackbar say "It's a trap!"

I mean...where is the free candy...oh wait...its the Venator.

---------

Look, The Venator is going to pop up...if the Victory 1 is in the game...then the Venator is in the game. Lemme make this stuuuuuuuuuuuuuuupid simple for everyone:

Victory + Venator = Imperial

To break down the equation:

Gunship + Carrier = multi role battleship

Victory = armored gunship

Venator = starfighter carrier

Imperial = combination of the two

I'd say something similarly costed like the Victory 1 with the ability to take up to 5 squadrons...4 as a base with offensive slots designed around carrier builds.

Front arc would be 2 reds and a black: because it has proton torpedoes in the nose....sides would be like the arq but with 3 reds and 2 blue maybe...consider it the Imperial assault frigate.

In theory it's supposed to be a multi role warship...during the clone wars...during the imperial era it'd be a multi role heavy cruiser geared towards starfighters.

I run mine as a Vic 2 built as a flat out carrier....and it owns.

Tarkin and Catalyist have Venators....Tarkin makes specific mention of Victory star destroyers as well...and we have those in the game.

Brace yourselves...the Venator is coming.

I think the clincher for me is that scene at the end of Revenge of the Sith. I mean, if Venators are not only being used at the same time as the Death Star is well into its construction, but appear to make up the bulk of the fleet, it's hard to believe that they wouldn't still be seeing widespread operation. Now that we've got lots ships and squadrons from Rebels , which takes place in that hazy period between the prequels and original trilogy, the chances are only improved. And there is reportedly one stationed in an Imperial dockyard a few years after Yavin, so they're still around.

Basically, I'd put money on it.

In terms of what I'd like to see, I think a medium base with decent broadsides, a narrow and weaker front arc, and a large rear arc would be cool. Similar layout to the light cruiser (since we're talking similar timeframe and technology), but on a larger scale, with the weak front arc reflecting the fact that a large hangar runs up the spine of the ship. I'd then like to see the option to choose between a carrier role and a combat role, with compensations made to armament. Ability to go speed 3, but limited movement at full throttle In terms of price, similar to the Victory, with an armament that sits between the Victory and the Interdictor. It might need lower hull or shields to balance out the comparison with the Vic.

I think that would make it an interesting and new addition to the Imperial fleet, with both a powerful broadside and the option for a quality carrier.

There just aren't many capital ships left to do.

MC75 profoundity

MC80 wingless liberty

MC80-b remonda (would look awesome)

Hammerhead corvette

Resurgent class star destroyer (can do same size as ISD, doesn't matter that it's twice as big)

Whatever the star destroyer was that had a mini Death Star laser on it. Can't remember the name.

Venator

Reskinned white ISD

Episode 8 will bring a lot more.

You can get most of these ships talked about in this topic like the Venator,Hammerhead and Remonda from Mel's Miniatures on Shapeways.

I know they're not official but there it is.

you know, only 19 years separate the Galactic Civil war and the prequels right? Most ships nowadays last for more than 19 years, so I don't know, Venator has all the reasons to be in the game. I wouldn't be surprised if it's a capital ship with less firepower but a squadron value of 5.

If more source material dealing with the early years of the Galactic Empire, and pre rebels, I think you would find the Venator featured in that time period.

So like I keep saying maybe the young Han Solo movies…

For an interesting carrier mechanic, I'd like to see squadron upgrades that go on the ship. Something like:

Ion Torpedoes: Each squadron with Bomber in your fleet may replace a die in its anti-ship pool with a blue die and gains [blue crit] Reduce the target's speed by one till the end of this round. Increase the cost of this card by 1 for each squadron with Bomber in your fleet. Cost: 1-2

I think we will see the Venator, and here is my baseless speculation:

Large Ship (if I recall these things were barely shorter than MC80s; once you are over a kilometer long, you're a large ship.)

9 Hull

3 shields in front and sides, 2 on rear

Combination of Red and Blue battery armament, maybe a one die advantage on the front arc over the broadside (5-6 dice front arc, 4-5 dice broadsides)

Command 3

Squadron 4 (5 if they give it lower fire power)

Engineering 4

Speed 2, maybe one click per speed, maybe victory style

Officer, Support Team, 2 Offensive Retrofit, Turbolaser, Fleet Command upgrades

The problem is that they are not official. The rules haven't been produced and vetted and playtested and balanced by the game developers, and are not "legal" within the context of open/regular play. They are essentially house-rules; which is fine for casual, non-competitive play, but isn't attractive to a lot of the more active players.

It'd be nice to see a 4 ship wave that are all ships used on both sides. Just include one or two base cards for each faction and done.

Dual faction ships in the same, package will never happen, it cuts your market opportunity in half. People have shown many times to buy repackaged ships, just look at xwing...
