Warrior Priest Timing

By tech7, in Warhammer Invasion Rules Questions

The Warrior priest redirects the first point of damage assigned to him. But I'm wondering when that happens, the problem, I have three power left in an attack, the only defender is the warrior priest. I have to assign damage >= the hit points of the priest. Now, is the damage redirected after I have assigned all damage (In that case I only need to assign one damage to him and can assign the remaining damage to the capitol) or is it redirected immediately (then I have to assign at least two to him).

I assume the effect takes place after you are done assigning damage and before damage is applied. So

1. If you wanted to kill the priest, assign two damage. when you are done assigning, the priest reassigns one of the two and dies in the apply damage step.

2. If you are trying to get that last point on the capital, assign one damage to the priest (satisfying the rules requirement) then the rest of your points to the capital. The priest then reassigns the 1 point of damage and lives. Presumably doing the damage to the capital or other units was more important to you so you do not care.

It happens during the "apply damage" step, just like Toughness.

I just want to make sure that you know you do not have any option in where that point gets reassigned. You simply choose how much you want to assign and where, and then the Warrior Priest's FE kicks in and redirects the first point assigned to him. IF you want to kill him you need to assign his HP+1 in damage all from the same source at the same time. IF you want to spill damage over to the Capitol then you just need to assign his HP in damage and the rest to the capitol. Whether the unit has been assigned enough damage to actually make him die or not is unimportant, as long as his HP number has been reached.

As to when that point is assigned it is an FE so it kicks in immediately after damage has been assigned, prior to the player action window and well before damage has been applied. IOW not during the cancel damage step that Toughness operates in.

That is all I need to know, my problem was the "first". It made me unsure if you assign all the damage at one time, or sequentially.

All damage from a source or game state is assigned and then applied simultaneously. First is there to show that it happens to one point out of each source that is assigned to it.
