Need Help With Fiber Optic Lighting

By BeerGeekGamer, in X-Wing Painting and Modification

Hello,

I'm adding lighting to my Decimator, and I'm going off of this picture (http://starwars.wikia.com/wiki/VT-49_Decimator?file=SWC_VT-49.png), but currently just doing the red lighting. I've drilled my holes for the red lighting and tested my fiber optic lighting, and it works great. My problem is I also want to put in lighting for engine glow. I was hoping if I use some hot glue and stuck one of the fiber optic filaments in it, the light would diffuse throughout the hot glue. I tested it on some cardboard and nope, doesn't work. Do you guys have any suggestions, or is the fiber optic not going to work for the engines?

In general, I don't use FO's for engines. They're designed to provide small spot lights, not large surface lights. I have used them for the center engines on the ShadowCaster and the bottom engines on the GR-75, but that's because they are both really small areas that are difficult to reach. In both cases, I used numerous FOs and melted the end of the FOs to provide a wider area.

But in general, you want dedicated engine glow LEDs.

So for dedicated engine glow, are people just drilling out the engine area and just letting the light shine straight through, or is there another trick?
