Targeting Beacons - Confusing

By Crabbok, in Star Wars: Armada

So I've used this one twice now.

It doesn't say that there is any distance required between the objective tokens. What's to stop the 1st player from putting their token directly next to the first one played - Or even on top of it.

It's basically saying the 2nd player can place two objective tokens and the first player does nothing. Like - why would the 1st player ever want to place them ANYWHERE else?

What am I missing here?

The "piling up" approach is how I've seen it used, too.

I dunno. It gives a little more room to work with Strategic squadrons... but that doesn't seem like much.

If they put it in a corner and you have Strategic, best if 2, delpoy on that side. Try to get your beacons in an area where you think you will be shooting into to get the rerolls. Their corner beacon can be used as a shield or deterent from you opponent deploying on that side of the board. Just send your Strategic in to move it and you can effectively make the beacon reach at range 4. I've done this on a flanking Demo, and getting those rerolls are important to get the damage you need. If they don't engage you, you can trap your opponent with the 2 beacons you have by moving them forward. If your opponent has Strategic, you have to lock it down otherwise you are fighting a fair fight against them.

I use this objective with Salvage Run and Fire Lanes since I expect my opponent will not pick the other 2, and this does not benefit them.

Does strategic allow you to steal tokens from other ships? Like their opening salvo tokens?

No those tokens are just representations of special actions not objective markers.

Actually, they totally are Objective Markers....

The Answer is still "NO"

But its because those Objective Markersa re on the ship card and not in the Play Area, and thus, cannot be Measured to or Targeted, that stops you....

I knew my answer wasn't going to be technical enough. But Dras will always be around shortly to fix that. We'd all descend into lawless madness without you around.

Honestly, after a day like today, I feel like everyone would be better off.

I hate to hear that man. I think your responses to people on here are great and extremely helpful. I don't always agree with your interpretations (RLB) but you always have a cogent and reasonable argument. Hope your day gets better.

I know that I always appreciate your thoughts on a subject, Dras. Cogent and thoughtful, and always attempting to understand where someone else is coming from. That's rare on the Internet.

As far as I can tell, this is a legal placement for both targetting beacons by my opponent, when I am the Rebel player in this example:
