Idea for an x-wing game

By DeathstarII, in X-Wing Off-Topic

4-10 players (not sure on how many yet)

Everyone builds up to 40 points of a ship (no large bases allowed)

Everyone sets up beyond range three of every one else

Free-for-all

When you destroy a ship, you gain any epts and pilot abilities that ship has

Thoughts?

Free-for-alls like this are not uncommon and are really fun. I encourage you to try it out. What you'll find, however, is that a dominant ship build arises at 40 points. We like to arbitrarily set different points limits after a couple games. Even shaving off 1 or 2 points can change some of the optimal builds.

I haven't tried gaining elites from pilots you destroy. That's an interesting twist.

The idea of taking epts and abilities just popped into my head, and i figured it'd be more of an incentive for people to stay in the fight rather then run around the edge while everyone else fights then come in for the win by killing one ship

There was a style known as Hunger Games that was very popular. I never got to try it, though. You have various unknown upgrades in the middle that you can rush forward to grab. This puts you in close proximity of those that also rushed in to get powerful new toys. If someone dies, they drop the upgrade. Kind of like the Hunger Games movie/book.

Yeah, now that i think about it, 40 points may be just a tiny bit much

We usually started at 35 and went down from there, but I don't see any reason 40 won't work. It just has the potential to exclude certain ships. For example, at 40 points you are perfectly able to take Mauler Mithel, but you'll probably be outgunned if you do. But I think you can probably come up with half a dozen 40-point ships and try those out.

So yeah, 35 might be best, just so we don't get nothing but corran horns everywhere
