Indeed we did

:) I had actually half planned for Vader to get into the fight just too late to stop the Rebs' escape, to the point that I deployed him at the furthest away Deployment Point, and it worked brilliantly. I have found that the threat of Vader's powerful attack is more dramatic and tense than actually combat with him, so I wanted him to chase my heroes for half the game rather than tearing them apart in the 3rd round; nice scene! :D

Yes! I totally agree with you on that! Although Vader would probably not last long against end-of-campaign heroes with their xp and upgrade cards, thematically he strikes fear in a way that rebel players who have never encountered him will try to avoid him. I've done that in the past (described more in details in another thread or 2 .. or maybe 3 ... like the Force, my story flows through lots of threads!) mainly because my rebel players were taking too much time being cautious and ran out of time on many occasion. I never intended to bring Vader to destroy them, just to scare them so they would run to their objectives and it worked! The legend has been created for that one day when there will be no escape and they will have to face the Sith Lord!!

I wish I had done something similar. I saved up my threat to bring Vader on near end. By then he was just icing on the cake rather than a plot element.

Yeah, I was pretty happy with how that turned out. But even with Vader there mostly for show, the mission was a very close call. I believe the last healthy hero was 1 or 2 dmg from being wounded, thereby losing the game, and Weiss had what looked like comfortable health remaining, but the heroes JUST managed to take him down as Vader was a final activation away from brutalizing the Rebels. Great game! :D

There are several ways of approaching playing the Imp in Imperial Assault, and although it is frustrating when the Rebs win loads of missions with no contest, I do prefer to play with emphasis on story and fun rather than pressing victories. Others, however, feel that is cheating and renders the game pointless (but they are wrong, of course ;) ).
