Resolving Damage Deck Actions

By gwaynebarber, in X-Wing Rules Questions

I have a question about resolving an action, when the damage card "Action" to flip the card down requires rolling a hit or crit. In rolling the hit or crit to turn the card down does this also count as a hit or crit to the ships hull?

Thanks for helping a new guy.

no.

It's just asking for a die result for the specific purpose of trying to fix the crit, it in no way makes mention of "attacking" or dealing damage to the ship.

"Do what the card says, not what it doesn't say."

Or, if you prefer, "Treat the sandwich as a sandwich."

If it has you roll a die to resolve what else is it going to tell you to look for? It's not like the card can say "Action: Roll a 1d8 and on a result of 1-4 flip this card face down." when the dice don't have a 1-4 on them. The card is telling you want dice results it is looking for for a purpose and here that purpose isn't to cause you more damage.

Along similar lines you may find things that look for filled OR open explosion symbols. Unless the card specifically is looking for either of them they are completely different things although some people have thought that an open explosion symbol (crit to many) would could as a filled in explosion symbol (hit) when a card is only looking for those filled in results.

Also note that flipping the card face-down still leaves it on the ship counting as damage. Some have thought that flipping a face-up card (mistakenly called a critical by some) would then allow you to simply discard it as its face-up effect goes away; this is incorrect.
