Question with Evade Tokens

By RoyalPayne, in X-Wing Rules Questions

My friends and I have different interpretations on the rules for evade tokens...

The rule says:

"When defending, the ship may spend that token to add one additional evade result to his defense roll. "

So that would mean in order to spend evade tokens you have to actually roll dice, correct?

If thats the case, then why does the Ghost have an evade action lol, for range3 and obstructed only?

Even if you don't roll any dice, you still have a defense roll. It just happens to have no dice in it (barring range and obstacle modifiers).

You can roll zero dice.

The Ghost still goes through the process of "rolling" zero dice and then modifying those dice. Every step in the attack/defense process still happens, even if nothing happens IN that step.

It's just like a box with nothing in it. The fact that the box is empty doesn't mean the box ceases to exist. You can still add things to the box.

Thanks guys

So therefore it is the same thing happen with Epic ships with a reinforced token

Yeah, except the Reinforce token isn't consumed.
