About Steward's fear nightmare solo

By Lecitadin, in Strategy and deck-building

Hello LOTR friends!

I was wondering if any of you were able to beat Steward's Fear nightmare in pure solo with a deck WITHOUT tactics Boromir as a hero?

Of all the decks I tried (traps, Noldor, etc), only a variation of a Boromir deck could beat this quest....

I have beaten it, but unfortunately I cannot remember if I used Outlands or Caldara but it would have been one of those two.

I've tried with a Caldara deck but couldn't do it... Outlands I might try it!

I did it with a song deck before the LoT errata :P

I beat it two handed..... but no not pure solo. sorry!

Just gave it a try with a Caldara deck and absolutely crushed it. It never even stood a chance.

I'll retry a Cadra deck, I guess! :D

Elrond - Gandalf - Glorfindel eagle deck

I've beaten it with Aragorn (Lore)/Arwen/Glorfindel and an earlier version of the same deck with Galadriel instead of Arwen. It mostly comes down to which plot you get. The one that adds additional 2 threat to the staging area every turn is incredibly tough, the one that reveals an additional card every turn is also very tough but a little easier, the other three are all beatable. The one that needs a specific hero to survive (Assassination?) is the easiest. The boss enemy doesn't matter all that much. Asfaloth is of course the MVP and for combat I used Protector of Lorien + Elven-light/Silver Harp + Unexpected Courage/Lembas/Tale of Tinuviel.

Best advice I can give on either version of Steward's Fear is don't rush through Stage 1. If possible, stay there until you have a comfortable board state. It's important to clear Stage 2 as quickly as possible so that the plot has less time to build up.

Good advice above. When advancing to stage 2, make sure there are a few locations in the staging area. You don't want to get stuck looking for locations while the plot is ticking away.

I struggled with this quite a bit when it came out, even with my Boromir deck. But Caldara now just rolls over it.

@seastan which Caldara deck do/did you specifically use? could you post/link it here?
