Vader and Expertise Inqy. Is it decent?

By TitaniumChopstick, in X-Wing Squad Lists

Lately I've been experimenting with non PTL arc-dodger lists since BMST/Asajj has become a thing and I recently saw somebody post about putting Expertise on Inquisitor which I though was a quite interesting way to open up his dial and keep his offensive mods.

Here is the list I've come up with:

Vader: x1, Outmanuver, Accuracy Corrector, Engine (36)

Inquisitor: v1, Expertise, Autothrusters (32)

Standard Palp Shuttle: (29)

Total- 97

Healthy initiative bid at 97, which will let Vader move after pretty much everything in the meta currently, besides Fenn with Ol Terry at 96. Both aces have their full dials open every turn, as well as having great mods for their attacks, letting Palp be used for defense exclusively. I don't think it's super great, but who knows, it might be a somewhat decent option for all the people who are growing tired of x7. What do you guys think? Will Expertise Inqy be a thing?

Inky will be surprisingly fragile without both tokens, even with Palp to back him up, and Vader's damage output will be iffy without ATC.

If you want to make sure Vader moves last, go for VI and ATC, that way you can spend the points for your initiative bid on something else. I agree that Inqy probably wants PTL. That gives something like this:

35 Vader (29), VI (1), /x1+ATC (1), EU (4)
34 Inqy (25), PTL (3), /v1 (1), ATs (2), Prockets (5)
29 OGP (21), Palp (8)
98 Total

That still leaves 2 points for an Init bid or you could get some upgrades for the Shuttle. FCS is usually good or you could get Baffles + Tactical Jammer to help it turn as well as obstruct shots to your fighters.

I don't think expertise is all that good on a ship that is only ever throwing 3 attack dice anyway and has green turns so doesn't really suffer from PTL related stress anyway. In my opinion it really only tends to be cost efficient for ships throwing out potentially more than 1 attack per turn (with a gunner effect or something like Tie/D)

While it's not always helpful to point out weaknesses vs certain lists, lists in the meta now need to consider how they are going to cope with defenders. I really don't see how you list is going to cope with pushing damage through those token stacks.
