Correction: As soon as we got an unforeseen combination of upgrades on a particular ship type that led to a level of firepower and reliability unprecedented for the cost of said ship+upgrades - in the interests of continued game balance and list diversity, said combination had to get nerfed.

I believe it was the additional combination of the Salvaged Astromech slot on the Jumpmaster that sealed the deal, and that is what I think FFG say they didn't see.

The problem is everything Turret related would have to be reworked. Point values, ability wording, the clarification of what arc does what in the case of secondary turrets, (for the love of God) make a better mobile arc indicator, and so on.
I think it's too late to make these changes. If FFG was able/willing to make that change, they should have started with the Heroes of the Resistance Expansion.
Just make a new version of auto thrusters that's a 1 point mod that can be taken by any ship. It has the same effect as auto thrusters against out of arc shots, but doesn't work on in arc range 3 shots like auto thrusters does.
Then also a stipulation that you can't combine it with regular autothrusters.
Now that doesn't help agility 0 ships, and only minimally helps agility 1 ships, but they both have very high hit points. Agility 2 ships are really the weak point against TLT's. They don't have the hit points OR the agility to really stand up to them well.
A modification that reduces the damage you suffer from 'then discard all dice results' effects by 1.
