Rebel Whale Pod

By Sygnetix, in Star Wars: Armada Fleet Builds

I was asked to build a fleet of Rebels by a friend considering getting into the game. We've played (clumsily) on Vassal and ran through a few different objectives using the Core Set as well as waves 1 and 2. He's considering diving into the game but wants to see a few 400 pnt fights before he does.

He's also a fan of cannon and refuses to play Imp vs Imp so I've been tasked with building a list out of Rebels. I'm not very familiar with dirty Rebel scum so I could use some insight.

My thought process ramblings:

I thought I would take this as a chance to go outside of my Imperial comfort zone of purely anti-squadrons squadrons and build a bomber wing on top of generating a list with my least familiar faction. Partially because why not, secondly because he watched Worlds 2016 and wants to double reroll 2390345 times per turn. I set 1 assault frigate up to drive right in and escort the bomber wing. My fighters and escorts double as additional bombers.

Much like my double ISD list, the second assault whale is ideally going to be a fire support platform for the Gallant Haven as well as follow up for the free dice proc.

In regards to commander....is a speed 3 bomber wing sufficient to incorporate Sato or does it take too long to get into position, making another selection better?

Zomg Sygnetix finally included Intel....yea, yea...think 1 is enough or drop an xwing for a second?

My biggest point of concern is I do not know what upgrades are best suited for Rebel scums...I mean ships. Also, what objectives play to their strengths?

In games we play, this fleet will have 2 activations over my current play list as well as initiative since I sit at 400/400 on my Imperials. Insight into these factors is welcomed as well but not a leading cause of concern at this time.

Any and all insight into scum and villainy.....I mean Rebels....is welcome.

Drop Gallant Haven to upgrade HWK to Jan. Her lending braces to X-wings will be a similar defensive effect but now your fighters are not tied to one ship and can roam freely.

I also don't think Sato is getting you much. With a flank shot you go from 3 expected damage to 3.5. Both these results would be braced down to 2 damage usually. Sato likes lots of ships shooting, you only have 2 and they are not exactly devastating.

Fair enough. Was initially thinking Garm and jjust token gaming but decided to try something new. Going to tinker some with suggestions.

Dropping down to Garm worked pretty well. Allowed me to keep the Gallant Haven as well as upgrade to Jan:

This looks a better, more workable list.

Most Wanted would be my preferred red objective. An enemy APT & Dodonna list may ruin your day at precision strike.

You could drop the BCC to Coms net on Lea's flotilla then upgrade an X-wing to Biggs to make the fighters super resistant to damage.

I'd just get rid of Paragon and upgrade him to Biggs. IMO, what you get from Biggs is much more than Paragon.

The second BCC is what is going to make the bombers super-effective (if you only have 1, they just blast it and your bombers become weak. With 2, they may ignore them since there is another anyway), and a second re-roll makes red shot x-wings pretty tough.

Sato works very well with Assualt frigates equipped with OE, you can throw out 3 rerolling black dice at long range, add in a turbo laser upgrade to modify your single red dice will give you a Sato frigate that side will consistently throw out 5 damage at long range. Even the front arc can generate 3 rerolling black dice and a blue which makes the traditional front park manouver more risky.
