Potential House Rule for Some Gamers

By Kubernes, in Runewars Miniatures Game

For those who really like to roll dice, I'll offer this simple change: rather than multiplying the result of your attack dice, just add the unit's attack for each tray facing your opponent. For example, if your have a spearmen unit with three trays facing an enemy, you would roll 3 blue dice and 3 red dice.

Just wanted to put that out there for people who really like rolling dice. Not quite a bucket of dice but you can always play the Imperials in SW Armada for that!

So with this rule, how would you handle rerolls? Would you just say that each row behind the first adds 2 rerolls instead of 1?

Also how would you determine surge results, or morale results? While I can understand the feeling that just rolling 2 or 3 dice doesn't have the epic feeling of armies marching across the field because you aren't rolling as many dice as Warhammer or Warmahordes, Runewars was designed for minimal dice being rolled and the cost of the surges and morale cards, is based with that in mind. .

Pending on the final rules of the game, you might simply multiply everything based on the number of ranks. If that's true, there isn't too much of a reason not to add up everything with this house rule. We know that the preview only talks about hits but not the rest.

So with this rule, how would you handle rerolls? Would you just say that each row behind the first adds 2 rerolls instead of 1?

The combat preview stated that each rank lets you reroll any number of dice one time so there's no need to change that.

Good point.

Woops, an erroneous post! Any who, we'll see once we have more previews of the game.

The morale and surge results are not multiplied by your threat like hits are. Although I would like to see someone play it this way just to see how broken it could be, lol.

You haven't played the actual game.

And you are already proposing house rules...

I thought of a same modification at first, as I'm a great believer in the central limit theorem - I like rolling lots of dice as it tends to reduce the luck from exceptional rolls - but it completely changes the value of re-rolls so it would have to be carefully researched before it's applied

He likes to be prepared beforehand :D

I would rather play his way actually

I know, right? Just thinking out loud for all those people who like rolling those dice. Besides, if a player puts all of his points into a huge unit, I'd expect it to do well. I also expect it to be a potential glass cannon if we go by that combat example. ;)

One huge unit would get flanked at every side and blown to the high heavens faster than the Council of Thirteen can say "Oh Snap!" :D

I am going to play as per the rulebook, but will add tons and tons of six sided dice to every roll I make. My opponent will tremble in fear of my fistfuls of dice. They will have no impact on the results, and I will not consult them. But I will roll them. Lots of them.

That's half your attack dice with your Tyranids or Orks, right?
