Hey im new to the forum so im sorry if this was alredy asked but i was just wondering when you come back from the other world and close a gate i know you dont have to fight the monsters that turn but if u do close the gate can you then fight the monsters?

Nope. Follow the Phases. When you return in the movement phase, you can either fight or do nothing with the monsters. Arkham Encounter Phase, close the gate. Next turn, Movement phase, you'll have to deal with the monsters.
